How do you deal with aging? (A question from the PG and my answer)

Posted 05-20-2009 at 11:55 AM by landis
I am 49, no really I am so will be 50 next February. I understand what you are saying. BUT I have watched my mother her WHOLE life resenting her age and getting older and SO not gracefully handling it and how unnattractive and downright annoying it is. So, I have determined to NOT be that way. I tell my age to whoever wants to know. I treasure instead the good things about getting older like wisdom, experience, contentment and self-confidence that I never had when I was younger. I do what I can to look younger but I don't dwell on the lines on my face and the sagging skin and pretend like it's somehow a bad thing. I can choose to let it get me down and feel bad about myself or I can choose to embrace it and age gracefully. I choose the latter! I love life! I am the same person as I was only better than when I was younger!

I also know another woman (beautiful and over 60, very successful in her business) who is always talking about the way people treat you when you are older and how hard it is, all the wrinkles that men don't have to worry about etc. I think listening to her also made me determine I do NOT want to have that attitude. I told her to get a mirror with less lights around it and hang around with positive people instead of the ones who bring her down. Honestly I did! Now I wouldn't have said THAT when I was younger either!
