You ate what you wanted to eat and smoked where you wanted to smoke.
There were no seat belt laws because there were no seat belts.
Lardy chili and greasy bacon and eggs in diners late at night.
Women in the kitchen and blacks in the back of the bus.
Hydrogen bomb and Cheeze Whiz developed, McCarthyism, the Korean war.
Orville Faubus, Strom Thurmond, Jimmy Hoffa, Vincent Gigante, Frank Costello
Rebels without causes. Leather jackets, engineer boots, and skin-tight Levi's.
Blue suede loafers. Greasers and mods. Flat tops and ducks a$$ haircuts.
Drag races, gangs, Thunderbird wine, ghettos. John Birch Society, Ku Lux Klan.
Terms like dysfunctional families and bipolar disorders were unknown.
Those who suffered did so in silence without awareness or remedy.
I had two best friends in 1952. Phyllis and Mary.
One died of Leukemia. The other was crippled by Polio.
