Hullo world!
I just discovered this great feature on Low Carb Friends and look forward to blogging about my continuing weight loss journey. I hope to connect with others who have similar experiences for mutual advice and encouragement.
So,
Quick background:
I am 31 years old, single, living in the Bay Area in California. I have been overweight since puberty, although I would give my right leg to be as "overweight" as I was in high school.
I topped out at 309 in 2002, which, even on my 5'9" frame is a LOT. I saw ads for this new thing called Curves, which appealed to me. I wanted to work out, but was deathly afraid of being judged at the gym. From the first session I felt successful and hopeful. What a change!
The initial weight loss from Curves was about 20 lbs, which was a good start but not enough. I continued on my journey by reading Dr. Phil's book on weight loss. It was a phenomenal way for me to begin really examining all the stuff that was going on with food. Stuffing emotions by stuffing my face. Using the information in that book, I lost some more weight, but these emotional crutches are hard to get rid of, and I gained some back.
Eventually I reached the limit of what I felt I could do at Curves. I had some extra money and decided to invest in a lifetime membership to 24 hour Fitness. When I met with the trainer in December of 2004, I was 294.
Over the next year and a half I worked out and tried to "eat right" and got down to about 260. I stayed there for a while, and was feeling pretty good.
Then I started NutriSystem in early 2006. I dropped down to the lowest weight of my adult life - 225. Then I met my (now ex-) boyfriend and promptly gained some back. After a breakup and surgery early last year I was back up to about 260.
Enter low carb eating in August of 07. I had tried low carb briefly before, but the lure of carbs proved too enticing. I started on 8/8/07 at 261 lbs. Right now I am at 232.8. I've been sitting in the 230's for quite a while and am ready to be DONE with them.
This week I'm trying to break my nasty little cycle of eating drumstick ice creams and other tasty delights by doing a week of Slim Fast low carb shakes for breakfast and dinner, with a good sized low carb lunch and a snack of some almonds and dark chocolate. So far, so good.
I have another blog that you're welcome to check out, but it doesn't have too much detail about my weight loss. www.alyssasezumm.blogspot.com is my regular life blog, of which weight loss is a part. I just don't feel like telling my whole family how much I weigh.
Anyway - I'll be back to post my menus, my weight and body fat changes, my revelations, and my NSVs.
Cheers!
