July is a new month and still pressing on

Posted 07-06-2009 at 12:25 PM by Flaxman
Well after a lovely week-end I went and had a great workout.

I went 35 minutes on the treadmill and burned 355 calories, plus an unknown amount working on the machines, all upper body, arms, shoulders, back.

I am still at 350 on the scale but I know better than to think that I am not making any progress because I'm getting harder which means I'm toning up in the body plus I have to consider how things fit and how I feel in general so no matter.

Looking forward to a lovely steak dinner. Gotta' keep the protein up as I work out so as to build muscle after tearing it up.

Another milestone in this new way of life

Posted 07-04-2009 at 12:09 PM by Flaxman
After several weeks of pumping it up and treading it out, I went through some of my nice summer shirts which I bought last year and are a 3X as opposed to the 4X which have up until now, fit me best.

I bought these last summer and left the tags on them just in case. Well they are now fitting me and I have some more shirts to take with me to Tennessee in 2 weeks for which I am elated.

Again, I have taken the approach over the month of June to focus on strength training and treadmill or any other aerobic exercise, rather than fester and fume and obsess over what I am eating and I gotta' say that this has worked for me very well.

I have noticed my tummy getting flatter, my body getting toned and yes I have not gone overboard with eating what I shouldn't.

Last night I almost bought a chocolate bar and realized that I didn't want it and put it back because why bother when I can say 'no'.

No exerting self-control either but just because I am feeling better where I'm going so why ruin it with a quick chocolate fix?

Hope your plan is working for you!

Another great workout

Well just back from the gym after strength training and 30 minutes on the treadmill which burned 260 calories. I don't know what I'm burning with the weights but I'm sure it's some too!

Came home and had some salmon on these great crackers and then some peanut butter and lo sugar jam too. I forget the name of the crackers but they are red bell pepper and pretty good combo of carbs and protein in them.

Tomorrow will be a 45 minute training on the treadmill to burn another 360 calories.

It all helps! I actually felt great today. At first, I think your body doesn't like you too well but now after being at it for a month, I think it's starting to smile at me!

This past week with additions

Posted 07-02-2009 at 03:21 AM by Flaxman
I got into the gym and did my usual strength training plus 30 minutes on the treadmill. That was Monday.

On Tuesday I went in but just for the treadmill so that I don't super atrophy my muscles. I went for 45 minutes on the treadmill which ate up 373 calories.

Wednesday was Canada day so the gym was closed.

Today, which is Thursday I hope to go back in and do my usual strength training and treadmill, followed by Friday on the tread and Saturday, the mix of both again.

Will post again with the details.

The New Approach

Posted 06-29-2009 at 09:57 PM by Flaxman
I have been trying to hit the gym at least 3 times a week and that has been my starting point rather than obsessing over food...at this stage anyway.

I have lost 10 pounds over the month of June and have been doing a strength training workout with weight machines, then starting out at 20 minutes and now 30 minutes on the treadmill, I have been tearing it up.

Also, last week-end, I did our lawn which was a bit of a long process and a good workout too...not to mention a sunburn on my shoulders.

I have been careful at what I have eaten but not overly concerned right now. That is not to say that I haven't been trying to eat what I should.

My main priority is to hit the gym 3 if not 4 times a week and burning those calories, then when I am in a good stride with not only losing fat but strengthening muscle, I will be able to focus better on my eating habits.

This is working for me. Any comments/suggestions are always welcome!
