...I found out yesterday at the doctor's that I have actually lost 15 pounds since June. I haven't had a chance to work out 'cause of helping my mom to move but will get into it by next week again.

Hi Flaxman. Can you please tell me more about the Dr. Greg Ellis program? Like what's allowed, what's not, etc? I can't afford to buy his book and it's not available at my library. Thanks for any help.

Well Dr. Ellis has his doctorate which spans 40 years of research specializing in the physiology of the body. He cuts across all the gimmicks and has all the science laid out in his book. He has a 'lite' version which is cheaper than his full book. He also has an interview on his website which you can watch as well as a sign up to get emails about his program.
In a nutshell, Dr. Ellis promotes exercise and physical fitness as the way to go to lose the fat and get in shape. Secondly, one can focus on calories by cutting back, but again exercise versus cutting calories is preferred because the body will adjust itself which means intensifying exercises or cutting more calories one takes in. Third, carbs are important to lower so as to cause the body to use fat as an energy source, thus burning the fat on your body, but the low numbers which Atkins proposed are not necessary. I have spent years researching all of these 'low carb' programs and the only one which made sense and which worked without causing me to hyper-focus and get discouraged has been Dr. Ellis' because it works with what the body needs. What the body needs is protein and fat. The protein will build the muscle and the fat will fuel the body to build the muscle. Now, since June I have dropped 20 pounds and I haven't even focused that much on what I eat. Even though I am careful, I have made physical exercise my focus and this has been liberating for me because I am losing the weight, getting in shape, building muscle. When I think about eating a goodie, I think about how much time in the gym I have to spend to burn that thing so I sometimes pass it by, and other times, I go for it. Ellis' link is on the bottom of my page now. He won't provide menus but gives you the tools to work with which are so simply laid out, then you just go for it. If I can help you further, please feel free to ask. Pete |
