A Red-Letter Day!

Sometimes, though, that road contains disappointing detours. Today I finally reached the end of a long detour and got back on the main path!

I'd reached 152 pounds on my journey back to 145 (or less) when I had to have surgery. It was major surgery including a hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries, along with propping up my bladder to repair a prolapse.

I'd expected to gain a little weight as a result of the IV drip during the surgery, swelling, and the high-carb foods on my gluten-free hospital diet. But I was shocked and appalled when I got home two days after my October 27th surgery and weighed myself. I'd gained 11 pounds! That was just about what I'd lost since I restarted low-carb more than four months earlier.

The first six pounds melted off in less than three weeks. But the rest has been harder to shed, especially with the traditional pig-out holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's intervening. This morning when I weighed in, though, I could have sworn I saw a smile of approval on my scale's display face. I finally did it! Back to 152.

With the detour behind me, from now on it's "Onward and upward!" Ooops! No, wait -- in the interest of clarity, I'd better make that "Onward and downward!"
