How the Mediterranean "diet" began...........

Posted 07-25-2008 at 10:42 AM by fluffybear2
In 1947, the Rockefeller Foundation arrived in Crete ready to offer humanitarian assistance to the war-ravaged islanders. As part of the Foundation's mission, it documented the islanders' meager diet. Then, Cretans lived on a subsistence regimen of wild greens, fruits, legumes, bread and barley rusks, little protein and plenty of their native olive oil. While the Rockefeller Foundation was appalled at what seemed like the diet of utter despair, they were equally surprised to notice that the islanders were uncannily healthy. There was no malnutrition on Crete after those war-torn years.

Danged ears.....

Posted 07-25-2008 at 12:38 AM by Bobby
Well I went to the Dr's office Thursday, I got my ears unplugged again. I should be able to get more than 4 hours sleep at a time.

The really good news is I weighed 346, my blood pressure is back down to about where it normally is and the nurse is going to work on my allergy/asthma issues.

That makes a 6 pound loss in less than 2 weeks.

The blood pressure was 122/80, that's pretty close to my 118-120/76 so I was really happy about that too.

She told me I shouldn't be using my inhaler so much, I was using it 1-2 times a day and apparently...

Feel terrible today

Posted 07-24-2008 at 11:48 PM by emslight
Not enough sleep. Got to bed at 1, Ruby up at 5.45 am. My head hurts and I feel a bit bloated as we went out for dinnner last night and whilst I stayed on plan, I probably ate a bit too much and I also had 3 large glasses of white wine. Back to clean living today.

On a positive note, I have decided to run London marathon next year. I ran NY marathon a few years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Since then, I have had 2 little girls and I told myself that I would pick up the running again when Ruby was 6 months, which she is now. So slowly starting the running now with...

First week sucess

Posted 07-24-2008 at 07:02 PM by kiwikid
Wow,

Just finished week 1 and did beyond my expectations. I really didn't know what was realistic and didn't want to set myself up for a fall so I chose 6lbs as my goal. I lost 11 pounds!! I know that this is a once off blessing of induction week, but I am so pleased that I even made it through the first week.

The Century Club Sistahs added me to their challenge, which was a real boost. It is definately scary to insert yourself into the conversations and relationships that are already formed here at LCF. It is tempting to remain a lurker. I was really...

I have more to say...

Posted 07-24-2008 at 01:43 PM by prairie-e-gal
The one thing I can't believe is how hungry I've been. I finished a huge steak last night plus a big salad and I'm still looking around for something else. I feel like I could eat all day long. These were the moments when I allowed myself to give in to a few cravings.

Today has been a bit better as far as how hungry I am. I had breakfast and lunch without feeling like I wanted more...thank goodness because I was going a little crazy trying to stay on track.

I have been lurking around for the past week and enjoying all aspects of this web site. I'm glad I joined...
