hi i would like to know on atkins how once you reach your goa and add more carbs do you maintain it thanks

Hi, have you read any of the books yet? Try reading Dr Atkins new diet revolution, and it will explain everything. It's very inexpensive.

Well, in summary basically you increase your daily carbs by 5g each week, until you see a gain. Then you go back to the last 5g increment and if you maintain at your goal weight, that's your Critical Carb Level.
Increase them slowly, and realize there may be certain trigger foods for you that even if you are within your carbs, cause cravings or a gain. Like wheat.

If I'm understanding your question, you want to know if you increase your carbs at maintenance, will you still be able to maintain your loss. The answer is, "that depends".

I'm at maintenance and I'm still eating the same number of carbs (less than 25) as I did while losing, because if I raise them, my blood sugar (and weight) start going up. Then again, I'm diabetic. So instead, I increased my protein (just a little) and my fats to up my calories by about 300 or so.

When you hit maintenance, just increase your carbs by about 3gm per day...and, per Atkins, start with more vegies. Then low carb fruits (berries), then grains. I use Atkins '72 but I know one of his later books DANDR incorporates far more carbs and far earlier than the '72 version. That might be the book that you want.

Personally, when you hit 50gm of carbs, I'd sit there for a week or so and watch the scale, paying attention to how you feel. If you aren't gaining weight and you're still feeling good (not tired, not needing after meal naps due to carbs, not craving, etc.) then you can continue to add some more carbs, 3gm per day. When you hit 75gm, I'd sit there and wait to see what happens. Continue this until you start having problems or reach the number of carbs you want to maintain at.

I think the mistake many make when they hit maintenance, is to just go back to their old way of eating so not only are their calories going way up, but they're probably going back to more than 300gm of carbs per day...and they gain back some or all of their weight.
