Books/Tips for starting Atkins

After researching low carb plans for a couple of weeks, I have decided to start Atkins. Can anyone recommend their favorite book on the program before I get started? I know Dr. Atkins has several himself and others have also written material on the diet.

Also, if anyone has any tips, tricks, or secrets they would like to share to help along the way, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

this depends so much on your situation. someone with a relatively good metabolism trying to lose 15 lb is NOT the same thing as an obese person, especially an older obesr person who has yo-yo'ed up and down for decades...

tell us more about yourself for better advice!

Thanks for the response! I am 36 years old and have about 20 pounds to lose. I have been yo yo dieting for the past year and am ready to get committed to an eating lifestyle and stop the up and down.

One concern with the low carb thing I have is the "one golden ticket" I've heard about. Do you feel it's true that once you've tried it before, it never really works as good subsequent times around?

I doubt it. The theory behind it is pretty sound so it will probably work if you follow it. I know for myself the protein is a bit high according it atkins recommendations, I need more fat and a bit less protein than what they recommend. But I use it as rough guideline

Everyone is different. It took me a 3 weeks but down 13lbs. However I am about 80 overweight. The one thing I love about this lifestyle is I am never hungry. A word of advice read the book so you fully understand how and why it works. Post questions here. Ive only been doing this 3 weeks after week one my progress dramatically slowed. I posted a sample of my daily food intake. Come to find out I started Atkins shakes. Not only did my weight come to a stop but I began gaining. I took the suggestion to stop them and within 24 hours dropped 2 lbs. good luck on your journey.

I've only been doing it for a few weeks but I'm down 15 lbs. My advice (I wish someone had told me) is to download a carb counter app. Lots of foods you may think are ok (veggies) will have more carbs than you think. It stalled my weight loss in week 3 because I was missing it. I used Adkins New Diet Revolution book for my plan. I will say the first few weeks were rough as I was getting into and adjusted to Ketosis, but now, it's pretty easy. I just have to be patient. I didn't put it on in one month, it's gonna take more than a month to get it off. Good luck... Looking forward to seeing you get to goal..
