Atkins people....
have any of you looked into JUDDD?
curious. over on the JUDDD forum many started on atkins and switched? wondering how current atkins people think of JUDDD? just asking for general comments if you ever heard of the JUDDD plan and would you consider it ever? Last edited by Trigger828; 01-28-2013 at 05:35 AM.. |

Way too much time on my hands!
|
I evaluated it but never did it.
Pros: makes sense as a way of overall calorie reduction I can do anything for 15 minutes, so I could just take hungry times on down days fifteen minutes at a time. Great food choices on up days Super easy to pack for work lunches, etc. on down days. Might be easy if I used the same menus over and over for down days. Cons: I have an eating disorder. I think I would do great during the daytime on down days and then I think I would crash and burn in the evenings. Takes a lot of planning for down days Have to eat in a manner that is not enjoyable to me on down days I think I might be likely to go wild on up days. I am not to be trusted sometimes.

WOE: Atkins - it's a diet
|
I started with Atkins and still follow it (but a more Paleo Atkins) and would have definitely tried JUDD if I was stalled and couldn't lose. I liked Atkins because I was losing weight- a diet plan to me that doesn't allow you to get to goal is worthless. So if I couldn't make it on Atkins then I would have switched to something else/combined something else with it.
I think it's a good plan but for many hard to follow because the freedom of the UP day often can result in eating way too much. I know several people in real life who love JUDD (and do a wholefoods version of it) and got to goal and still eat that way. I'm not married to Atkins- I need a diet plan that lets me lose/maintain in a healthy way. If I started gaining tomorrow on Atkins and none of my usual tricks worked, I would probably look into JUDD.

I do JUDDD in combination with a low carb/moderate protein/high fat (NK) primal diet. I weigh and measure and track everything on both my down days and my up days. I aim for 1700 calories on up days and 300-500 calories on down days, and never more than 30 net grams of carbs. Many people eat the same thing, more or less, on down days; I drink lots of liquids and eat some lean protein on my down days.

Emel's post could have been written by me too. I tried it but the carb allowance triggered binge eating which got out of control.
My DDs were down but my UDs were filled with binges. Carbs trigger me. If only I could remeber that! |

wow guys thanks for the indepth responses. this is what is worrying me also. the carbs you are allowed to have.
if I kept it very low carb on UP days, then what use is it to me? I might as well eat atkins all the time and eat normal all days instead of using down days. now, if I decided I wanted bread or potatoes or some junk food, then I can see JUDDD working if I could control that on UP days. I think I am one who can't. but if you eat high fat on UP days and combine that with higher carbs like bread, isn't that the SAD and it is what is killing us anyway? I wandered over to JUDDD and ONE thing caught my eye. they all said one perk of this plan vs. extreme LC was that they could go to a restuarant and get a burger with the bun just throwing out thoughts cause I kinda want to get an idea about this JUDDD.

you certainly can eat LC on JUDDD.
there are some wonderful success stories on that forum. the calorie cycling has many benefits as far as I can see. For me, it isn't about carbs. It is about JUDDD encouraging my restrict/binge brain. I am perfectly capable of bingeing on LC foods. I am not normal in anyway about food and JUDDD made that very clear for me. I am inspired to this day by the folks on that forum who have realized transformation and their kindness to other JUDDD BUDDDS |

I thought seriously about trying it when I was stalled for 3 months but then my weight started going down again so I didn't. I'm kind of afraid to try it in a way because on the DD's i'm scared i'd start cravings again and start going crazy with what I eat!

this is a wake up call for me. I can do this easily. If I was allowed an UP day of eat whatever you want (but kinda stay LC) there might be no telling what I will do. I can binge LC also. that restrict day could send me off. One thing about atkins I said I loved was I eat all day long til satisfied. 500 calorie day will not satisfy me. I guess in the end it is 'know thy self' and 'don't lie to yourself' about knowing yourself. if you can control yourself JUDDD is a good plan that I can see so far but it is the personality of the person doing it. ah ha. |

I think tho if atkins ever did fail me in any way I am heading toward JUDDD for some reason. the plan has an appeal to me I can't quite put a finger on. maybe getting more carbs back more frequently???

those of us with either diabetes or severe insulin resistance do better restricting carbs. it can be a metabolic roller coaster otherwise.

yea the thought of switching over to JUDDD scares me so much. carbs scare me now.
but for some reason I have absolute wonderful energy one or 2 days then all of the sudden I get that 'can't keep my eyes open' feeling. plus I feel kinda loopy. like I can't think so clearly or sharp like I used to before atkins. but it isn't all the time so I kinda ignore it. maybe the 20-25 carbs is a tad too low for me?? |
