Will fiber tablets, or powder knock me out of ketosis?

Howdy all, hope every one is well.

Had a quick question. I'm 9 days into Ketosis, hoping to stick it out for another 6 days.

Without going into personal details, I need some FIBER IN MY DIET!

But I read that Fiber is just another form of Carb.

Hopefully I can get a simple yes or no with this.

If I get any type of fiber capsule, or metamucil, or some other fiber powder that this board recommends. Will that knock me out of Ketosis?

Thanks for any concise responses or suggestion of products I can buy easily at Kroger, Albertsons, Walmart, etc.

They recommend psyllium husks, ground flax and I believe ground bran. Ground flax is really low carb its .4 net carbs per 2 tbsp. Your "issue" is apparently very common. I have tried colace, pericolace and then had to take a laxative. It's pretty crazy when you feel you can lose 5 lbs just by going to the bathroom. LOL! Today I put the flax in my shake and I will try a pericolace before bed. Fingers crossed!

To get things going, make sure you drink PLENTY of water too, and upping your fat intake can help as well.

Too much fiber can constipate too, so drink water to flush it out!

Load up on salads and up your water intake, you will be fine. Drink at least 8 glasses a water and have a least 2 cups salad a day and your personal problems will be remedied.

Fibre is a carb, but it's not absorbed by the body, which is why you can deduct it to reach a "net carbs" figure in the more recent versions of Atkins.

Are you following one of the Atkins plans in one of the books?

Personally for this issue I take a magnesium supplement. I prefer that to more fibre. And I eat my veggies and get plenty of fat and plenty of liquids. If I feel backed up I'll double up on the magnesium for a couple of days. Works for me.

This is a good question, which brings me to a question of my own. What does everyone think of the Splenda packets that have added fiber? I have a box full of those and haven't tried them yet...do you think they'd be safe?

I have wondered about this as well. I have some of the sugar free fiber tablets that I used to take ever since I had my gall baldder out. I've only been back on Atkins for one day and so far no problems, but I do wonder if it is okay.

I bought the splenda packets with the fiber because I thought they would be great for this WOE. It has soluble corn fiber in it- is that allowed? I decided to go back to my regular splenda because I was still having cravings and hunger and didnt know what was causing it.

It's okay to take it. It won't knock you out of ketosis.

While your body adjusts to this new WOE in the beginning you may need the psyllium seed fiber pills. Just get the Equate (store brand) at WalMart. That's the cheapest.

Take 5-6 capsules with a LARGE glass of water. If you need to, take twice/day as long as you drink the large glass of water with them each time.

At bedtime take calcium supplement and a Magnesium pill. (Even if the calcium supplement has some Magnesium in it, take the extra pill.)

Once your body adjusts you'll be okay without the added fiber as long as you are getting enough fats and fluid in your diet.

I still take my calcium and extra Magnesium every night.

It has never bothered me.

I take Sugar-Free Fiber Choice tablets - very tasty.

As previously mentioned - always drink lots of water :-)

Try to limit the Splenda in any form during Induction. The more you taste of any type sweetener, the more you will crave it.

I had to stop. I got really sick while in the middle of this and the doctor suggested I stop for a while till I got better. Sorry I did not reply.

Im back to it. Thanks for all the responses.

I read one book, probably lost a lot of info, the main Atkins book.

First 2 weeks I try to keep it under 20.

I just spazzed because I read that peanuts have more carbs in them than the back of the Planters label says.

1 bag is said to have 9 G of carbs in it. But going by this link
Grams of Carbohydrates in Peanuts - Oil Roasted Peanuts - Carb Counter

That's can't be accurate. So I probably threw myself off Ketosis after 3 days of going with 0 carbs a day or close to it.

Anyway.. little hyper upset right now and rambling. Really angry at Planters.
