Thanksgiving to New Year's Staying on Track with OWL~~Support Thread!

We had a lovely pre-Thanksgiving Induction thread, and now that most of us are moving into OWL, we decided to move over here to continue supporting one another.

Anyone that is working on either extended Induction or OWL would fit right in! We have no official weigh-ins or anything else. Just sharing the journey and celebrating our losses together.

So now that Thanksgiving is officially over, we can move successfully through December and into Christmas and the New Year. It will be such a great feeling to come to January 1st not having to feel disgusted whilst making rash promises to lose weight but knowing that we are doing exactly what we need to be doing and are thinner than when the holidays started! I can't wait. This will be my first low carb holiday season, as I was pregnant last year through the holidays and morning sick, so ate whatever sounded good to me. Plus I truly enjoy planning a healthy and delicious feast, so I'm excited about the opportunities ahead.

How about you....are you ready for the month of December?

You too, Kissa!

I'm actually more focused on maintaining right now. I'm trying to decide if I am willing to be done losing. Part of me want to keep going and part of me feels very strongly that I need to learn Maintenance.

But regardless of my personal situation I want to be here to support all the OWLers! Let's make this a holiday season where we stay on-plan and head into the new year feeling proud.

May I ask how tall you are? It looks to me as if you have done really well. Have you got Atkins for Life? I love that book, I think it helps at all levels.

Hi Lisa!! Hi Peanutte! Wow you are still losing! Good job!
Im here. Thanks for starting this thread!! Its nice to have a new OWL thread, and be supported by like minded OWLer's. I am currently on the dairy rung, I have a hard time busting through the 20 net carbs a day!! Induction mind set is still lingering. I swap out one thing for another each day. I have 5 more pounds to lose until I get to my goal.

Hi Jami!

Cindy, I'm five-three. I could certainly keep going; I'm at the upper end of a healthy weight for my height. But I'm not trying to be as skinny as I was in my 20s; I just want to look pretty good and be able to sustain something in the 130-135 range. I set my goal for 140 because I didn't think I'd ever see the 130s again, so I'm pretty thrilled.

We are about the same height Peantte, I admit to stretching the probable height of 5"3.5' to 4' in my stats, lol.

I also admit to being 62 so I know that skinny is a look that doesn't suit me. I went down to 122 for vanity's sake on my 60th and did myself do favours. I think I am at me best at around 128 to 130.

Ultimately we have to remember that our ideal weight is something that moves around a bit for lots of reasons. I try to stay fit and sometimes I look slimmer than others, depending on my commitment to that.

You will know when you are right. Maintenance is a great place to be!

Just popping in to say hi I'm kind of at the end of OWl/Pre-maintenance, or even goal , haven't quite decided yet!!!
People keep telling me I look great and don't need to lose any more but at 5ft 2 I'm thinking another couple of pounds won't hurt, but won't be stressing over it, if it happens it happens!

Am really looking forward to Christmas and am already starting to get ideas to keep it as low carb as possible, I will need some support though as my DH uses any excuse to eat off plan and I've had a few "just one day" thoughts Nooooooo!!!

I really need to get hold of a copy of Atkins for life too, might have to trawl the net for that one as Dr A is not as popular here in Aus as in some places.

Hi AK, good to see you again.

Lorraine, welcome. I know the Atkins for life book is available over there as I saw one in Brizzy when I was over visiting my daughter. You have done a great job, as a lot of things come with a surprising amount of sugar in them in OZ.

I am sick today, tummy issues, and unbelievably my weight has gone up!

Thanks for the new thread B! I'm psyched for December and 2 weeks of pure inductiion! Even no wine for 2 weeks Cindy!

Congrats on all you who did so well over the holiday. I didn't but I just need to restart and I'm okay with it. I already have lettuce salad made with cucumbers and italian dressing for my lunch and two hard boiled eggs ready for breakfast/snack. I'm going to get my veggies for snacks ready after school and a grilled lean meat and vegge for dinner.

LCF is awesome and really helps keep me focused. Thank you all for being here!

It seems like everyone on here has really done well with losing weight! My scale gets stuck every couple pounds. I was stuck at 140 for 7 weeks, right after induction, then, 138, and Im stuck again. Oh well, at least the scale isn't going up right. LOL
I hope you all have a great day today. My son, 12 years old, is back to school this week after Thanksgiving break. Back to wrestling practice and all that driving blagh. LOL He loves it though. Do any of you Atkineers pay attention to your caloie counts? I have heard people going both ways with that. I range anywhere from 1200 to 1800 a day, depends on where Im at and what Im doing.

Jami, don't feel bad, I stick too. In fact this morning the scales were up to 139 again after days at 137.5. Wouldn't be so bad but I have a serious tummy upset and expected to be down...I will never understand the human metabolism.

I am just beginning to think about eating again, maybe an omelette.

I never count my calories. Perhaps I should but I find that I have so little appetite for most of the time it seems pointless. If I do have a day eating more I assume it evens out over the week.

I agree, Cindy--most of us, as we age, don't look the same at a weight that used to suit us. What used to look thin and healthy can look haggard on a woman in her middle age. I'm not trying to get as thin as humanly possible and I don't have any interest in shopping in the juniors department--I'm an adult woman, not a teenybopper. So you're right; I'll figure out what the right weight is for me.

Nice to see you and your pink elephant again, Sinny!

Hello everyone! So nice to see this thread hopping!

We got home super late from Thanksgiving vaca last night. I didn't get to bed until 4 am Had an icky food day yesterday. MIL served a meal that was virtually 100% carbs. I was not prepared enough to deal with it. I didn't feel up to refusing to eat any of it. Ahhh....well...these things happen. So I'll be shedding water weight for the next couple of days.

Had a shake this morning for breakfast...I call it coconut eggnog. It's essentially an egg cream with coconut milk for the liquid and nutmeg to flavor. Delicious!

So excited about a new month starting tomorrow of weight loss

Thanks, everyone, for jumping in here.

I love Mondays. I don't go off-plan over the weekends--holiday weekends or regular old weekends--but I don't track my food on those two days. And because it was Thanksgiving weekend I didn't track my food on Friday either. The reason I take a break from ****** is A) I eat out a few times on the weekend and can't really measure or track my food accurately and B) I think it's important for me to practice eating without relying on ****** to the point of being dependent on it, if that makes sense; there are going to be times when I don't have the option of using it, for whatever reason, so I like being able to eyeball my portions and make on-plan choices on my own for 2 days of the week.

Anyway, the reason I'm bothering to tell you this is I always find it funny that come Monday morning, I am so happy to get back to ******. I guess I am just the kind of person who prefers orderliness and accuracy to guessing or estimating.

I am the same way...I LOVE ******..the only time I don't use it is when I have to eat out at a restaurant that I have no nutrition info for or cannot accurately guess ie Dinner Theater.

Hi All

As you know, (some of you anyway), I don't follow Atkins - but I'ld like to hang out here!!! (I'm Cindy's daughter) - for the support - I promise not to mention any carby delights!!!

Sinnydipper - does Melbourne have anything like QBD (think it stands for Queensland Book Discount or some such) - if not, I'm sure Target, Big W or K-mart normally have a copy of some Atkins books. I was in BrisVegas - but now get to live on the shores of the Indian Ocean - in Salalah!!

We're having a few days off work (should be 10 days - but I went to work on Thurs and Sat - weekend = Thurs/Fri here - as I have next Sat and Sun off work). Really enjoying it, as having friends visit - and we're doing the lazing by the pool thing - it's great!!!! Next weekend we're up in Dubai - for the Rugby 7s tournament - but I'm also looking for a winter coat to get me through 4 days in Istanbul over Xmas!!!!

You are all such an inspiration - I know I can work with you!!!

Peanutte I so agree about learning to live without being dependant on Fit Day. It is a great tool but it can't follow us on vacations etc!

One of the great things about Atkins is eating in restaurants. I can work almost any menu, though Pizza houses are tougher. Salads are always there of course but I find it difficult to 'waste' so much of the pizzas. I do it of course, but I am a product of my generation and prefer to eat in restaurants where I can simply say, hold the potatoes!

I can create such great pizza with the help of these boards that I don't need them when eating out.

B you must be exhausted especially after a carb up meal. Love the sound of your egg nog! I love coconut milk, not sure how to count it in OWL yet. Must look at some of the CO threads.
