ATTENTION ALL ATKINEERS! VEGGIE CHALLENGE!

It seems hard to get in all of our veggies that we need everyday. This Challenge is for every phase of Atkins diet from Induction to Maintenance. I have decided to start a challenge for all of us to keep our healthy veggies in our menu all throughout the day. This challenge takes some planning and dedication.
Rules:
1. This challenge is for one week. Starting Novemeber 9th - 13th. Everyday, for 5 days, you will share your menu and write down the complete NET carbs from veggies that you are consuming.
2. Make sure you state the level of Atkins that you are on as well as the RUNG.

If you are doing Induction, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 12 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
If you are in any phase of OWL, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 17 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
If you are on Maintenance, your challenge is to eat a minimum of 22 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.

The whole idea of this challenge is to get away from depending on cheese, eggs and whole grain breads for our Carbohydrate needs.

I am all for eating more vegetables and I hope people will join your challenge, Jami!

But I'm not sure where you're getting these numbers. There is no requirement for a minimum number of grams that are compulsory during OWL and Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance. The amount you eat depends upon what you had been eating before, and what you have added in.

I'm not trying to get in the way of your challenge--I just do not want people to think there is some prescribed number of grams one should be eating on any level of the plan. There isn't. We should try to get at least half our carbs from vegetables, but that is more of an individual thing than it is dictated by what phase we are on.

If you are on OWL and eating 30 grams a day, then yes, try to get at least 15 from vegetables. But you could be on OWL and eating 45 grams in a few weeks' time, and you could be on Maintenance and eating 25 grams a day. It's not about the phases themselves--it's about getting at least half your daily carbs from vegetables no matter how many grams you're eating.

Hope this makes sense!

All of these Values are AT LEAST. According to the knowledge you have on your own level you can adjust the values of net carbs.

Huh. I don't understand this, because they don't know how many grams any of us are currently eating on any one of the phases, so they really can't prescribe a certain number for any given phase. The whole point of the Critical Carb Level for Losing is that it's individual. Oh well! Like I said, carry on--I don't want to challenge your challenge!

While I love the idea of a veggie eatting challenge and highly endorse eatting veggies as part of our Atkins WOE because of the micronutriants they contain that are needed for life.

just an FYI the person who created that challenge on the other website pulled her numbers past induction out of the air. Those numbers are in no way endorsed nor recommended by Dr Atkins.

If an OWLer is on rung 6 and did induction properly they should be having the 12-15 from Induction plus the 5 from rung one plus the 5 from rung 6 for 22-25 grams of veggies minimum unless they are a very high metabolic resistan person and can't go higher then 20 total grams.
once a person gets to premaintenance they should be having even more veggies cause in premaintenace they added back the rungs in 10 gram increments.

Here's a recipe to help get the vege cards in
Chicken Tomato Soup
1 medium onion
2 garlic cloves
saute in olive oil until onion is opaque

add 28 oz canned tomatoes (I used fire roasted for better flavor)
1.5 C Chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon basil

bring to boil, simmer for 10 minutes then add 1/2 cup heavy cream and 2 cups cooked chicken. heat thru and eat

total carbs is 39, makes just over 5 cups for net carbs of 7.8 per cup

Good Morning everyone. This will be my menu for the day. I had to do some planning for this week so I make sure to get my everday levels right. I am on rung ONE of Atkins. I am only starting with an extra 5 net carbs from vegies 3 days a week to begin with. Try to ease my way through for the start
B. 2 egg omlette, 1 ounce shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup mushrooms
L. Tuna packet 1 cup lettuce, 1/2 cup diced tomato, 1/2 cup cucumber slices, 1 ounce shredded cheese, Kens steak house creamy cesar dressing
D. Ground hamburger, 1/2 cup sauted cabbage, 5 spears of sauted asparagus.

Tomorrows menu will be induction level veggies for me and wednesday back to the OWL Good luck everyone. Thanks mrsmordru. That sounds like a good recipe. I love soup, especially this time of year.

I am making a crustless quiche for breakfast with 3 eggs and one cup of frozen chopped spinach, instead of having eggs and bacon. If I throw some veggies into my breakfast I can easily add another serving or two.
