What's wrong with Soy?
I keep reading posts that people can't eat soy? Just wondering why? I've been on a stall all week and drinking a soy protein shake periodically. Why is soy bad? I heard it is a great protein supplament???
I'm just thinking I may have to search for another protein drink without soy? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks![]() |

the soy issue is a mulit angled one. First soy interfers with thyroid hormones so those folk who are hypothyroid can't use soy for medical reasons.
then some of us are allergic to soy and can't tolerate any in our foods. Some folk don't like the natural female hormones found in soy products and avoid it for those reasons espcially if they are doing any hormone therpy already or are concerned about caner feeding off the added estrogen. And many folk just plain don't enjoy the taste of soy protein or flour. |

Hi! This is my first post
I've eaten soy products (tofu, tempeh, soy milk, all kinds of soy "meats") pretty much every day since I became a vegetarian a few years ago. Recently, I've lost weight on Atkins induction, even though some of those things aren't listed in the acceptable foods list. Obviously, I can't say whether I would have lost weight more quickly without them, but I find them pretty indispensable since I don't do meat! |

Thanks
I was hoping it isn't responsible for my weight 'stall'. I thought I was doing good but I'm stuck and my weight seems to be stalled and wavering between 150.1, 150.9 and even up to 151.9???? I'm eating between 18-21 carbs with no cheating. I said when I hit 150 I would make my Oct. goal to include exercise. I think I may not have a choice but to kick my own butt in gear ![]() So the soy isn't my problem, it's the lack of exercise? ![]() ![]() |

That's interesting. My tendency is to keep the carbs under 20 but to eat more cheese than is allowed and to include a few off limits things like beans sometimes. I wonder if I'd have more success increasing carb grams instead of bending the food rules? |

Maybe something else in the shake other than soy is stalling you? Does the shake consumption definitely coincide with the stall? |

Dr Atkins was very very specific about required exercise. He even says in Chapter 15 of DANDR 2002 if you aren't exercising you aren't doing his porgram.
While something in your shakes could be slowing your weight loss the lack of doing the required exercise part will also be slowing your efforts. carbs are tied very strongly to our exerice as can be seen by the estimated CCLL charts in chapter 14 too. |
