GOALS for September 2009

Are you guys all ready for the new month? What are your new goals?

After traveling and being without a fridge for the past week, my goal is just to get back to my usual simple, healthy routine, and I am going to set my target weight at 142.4 for the end of the month.

I've never set a "goal" before for a certain amount of
time but I'm going to jump in here and say I'm going to
lose 9 pounds during the month of Septemter!! The weather
should be getting cooler and walking will be easier so
maybe a goal is just what I need to keep me motivated.
I plan to be at 170 by Sept. 30!!

You're so right about the cooler weather making it seem more inviting to get out and walk. I have been slacking on that in the heat of August.

I really wanted to make my goal 140 by the end of the month, but one of my overall Pre-Maintenance goals is to be patient and be willing to slow it down. That's going to be important in the long run.

My goal by the end of September is to down to 130 pounds. I am doing P90X, my weight came off fast at first but I am putting on lots of muscle now. My body fat has been dropping which is great but my weight has stayed the same the past two weeks. I guess I need to stop focusing on my actual weight. I've realized this before and easier said than done for me. I have listed a goal weight before and had people basically say "oh I would kill to weigh that so stop complaining." I'm only 5'3" so my weight should be lower than someone say 6 inches taller than me. Furthermore, for my body frame and weight history, I am larger than is typical for me thanks to my 2 years of bad eating habits and non-consistent workouts. Just throwing that out there in advance because it is my goal and not meant to make anyone else feel insulted.

ok here i go. time to be accountable this really sucks. I'm back to 155!!! At my lowest I was 133 I really hate myself right now. What is a reasonable goal? If I said 10 lbs would that be unrealistic?

No one at work wants to here my weight loss woes b/c they are extremely overweight people and want me to shut up - so I feel sad. Nothing fits and I just want to cry. I had to go out and buy two sizes bigger clothing cuz I donated all my 'fat' clothes when I lost the weight. Now here I am again...

So is 10 pounds too far of a stretch or should I just shoot for 5 lbs a month and do it sensibly!?

eculmone....you scared me! I donated my "fatter" clothes too!!
If I regain I'm going to have to go buy new ones too and I
really don't want to buy new clothes unless they are smaller!
I hadn't thought of that yet!

I think since your weight is so low and you're that close to goal
you'd better do 5. They say it comes off slower when that's all
you have to lose. Mine's coming off slow and I'm still a pretty
good way away from where I want to be! Maybe that will help
keep it off though in the long run.

Good Luck! You can lose it again!

do it sensibly and just make your goal to get back on your healthy Atkins eating plan cause if you are up 2 sizes you are not eating your atkins correctly unless you are preggo. Make exercise a priority too.

leisha giving away the fatter clothes is a great deterant to getting bigger cause when your current clothes get tight you know you need to get back to counting carbs, feeding only our hunger and not the empty space in our tummy, and doing the mandatory exercise part of our Atkins.

I departed with some of my old clothes. I'm 2 sizes down from my most recent high weight, so I ditched all the pants two sizes up, and kept a few of that were one size up. That way, if something goes wrong and I gain a little then I still have something to wear, but it's a warning that I'd better nip it in the bud because otherwise I'm looking at an empty closet.

Yes, this is where we check in and post about working on our September goals.

Congratulations on getting back on track and seeing immediate results, eculmone. I don't want to discourage you, but watch it with using those syrups/sweeteners every day, and make sure you are measuring that heavy cream because it's easy to use more than you think you are. For ranch dressing, you can find something with fewer carbs than 2.9 per 2 Tbsp; Marie's has only 1 gram.

Are you doing Atkins Induction, or following some similar plan? I know I say this all the freakin' time, but reading the book and then using something like Fitday to track your carbs, protein, fat and calories will really help keep you informed and accountable.

Thanks Peanutte - I'm doing DANDR induction. I was OWL then maintenance for a fricken second as I thought it was a free for all and I wouldn't gain it back
I counted 2.9 b/c I took 2 tblsp. as opposed to one hee hee.

I here ya on the cream. I used a creamer today and felt gipped so I think I need to take 2 carbs for my morning... we'll see how it goes tonight.

I'm just leaving work and have saved my cheesecake muffin for my snack tonight.

hummingbird, you have a lot of good goals going on there.

So with regard to tapering: you eat most of your carbs earlier in the day? That is an interesting idea. Is that from Eat Fat Get Thin? I should read Groves' book one of these days because it sounds interesting. Not that I am looking for something different from Atkins, but I just like to read about different low carb approaches too.

Hey Dystany what is p90x? I'm 5'4" and they say there is 5lbs for each inch difference so if your 130 I ideally would be 135. Oh to be back there. In my pic that's how big I was. I'm now up but hoping to be back beside you!!! Keep on keeping on excellent job I hear ya on the naysayers to 'stop complaining' but if your like me, weight maintenance is really a battle and you can never really stop fighting or you'll end up sliding up the scale. Keep up the good work

Thank You, Peanutte!

Yes, I eat my LC whole grain/high fiber/sprouted item(s)s for Breaky or Lunch.
I eat only protein/fat/leafy greens at Dinner. Sometimes fruit/fat for Dessert.
No, I got the "updated version" of EFGT: "Natural Health & WeightLoss".

Barry Groves suggests:
"Eat Breakfast like a King; Lunch like a Prince; Dinner like a Pauper".

That's something I've always leaned toward; but love the validation in print!

I refer to Barry Groves as: "21st Century Atkins"

The carb/cal "tapering" I learned from Watch-Me-Shrink & Btinc.
They do "carb rotations" (def NOT for the faint of heart; like me);
I attempt a more simple version of what they (successfully) do.

I like to read about other WOE approaches, too.
I feel the more knowledge, the better!

As Btinc would say: "Doesn't really matter WHICH WOE plan;
just pick a WOE plan and stick with it + be consistent"!

(w/ cal/carb shake-ups here & there; keeps the body guessing!

As Bruce Lee wisely noted:
"Research; absorb what is useful; reject what is useless; add what is specifically your own."

I'm gonna tweak my Goals/Targets a bit; so they're more workable/attainable for ME.

have a great day, Girl! have a great day, Everyone!

Hello September 'Goal tenders' I posted my new morning weight 151.5 and my meals for the day yesterday for a total of 20.2 carbs. I pushed post and then as it hour glassed, I ran to get ready for work - I start at noon - we have a two week days; two week pm shift over here in Canada eh

Anyhooo I'm still wearing my girdle but it is less uncomfortable than normal usually it's been digging into my gut and cutting off circulation. When I first started 3 days ago I weighed 154.6 but rounded up to 155 so officially I'm down 3.1 pounds

I know it took time to get me up so high so it'll take time to get me back down My weekdays I find I can keep with my schedule, it's the dang weekends that I blow so easily. It's like a huge steam vessel release and I indulge in first one glass of wine, which leads to two... now, I'm feeling good and a movie sounds good, so we pop in a movie and out comes the popcorn or sunchips. I always say ok, just a handful in a small bowl; but then once I eat it I say what the H e double hockey sticks and out comes the licorice.

Then Saturday comes and I shoot for whole grains and a piece of fruit. So peach slices on a flax bagel with cream cheese - I tell myself 'only half a bagel' but once I'm done - OMG I can't stop then I pop the other half down Lunch time I'm good, but dinner and the family orders out or goe's out and I say to myself 'why do I have to suffer?' and again I indulge in whatever is on the menu. i.e. Burger with bun and side salad but end up eating a couple of hubby's fries with ketchup. Then at home I snuggle up on couch with another drink concoction i.e. mojito; vodka/tonic with lemon Mmmmmm - Come Sunday and I'm back to 155 and even 157 if it's a birthday party weekend cuz I can't NOT have a piece of cake that would be rude right?

OMGosh I hate the roller coaster. I know the weekend is almost here Can she do it?

Well, you can either politely decline the cake--reminding yourself that you have had plenty of cake in your life, know what cake tastes like, and it's not worth it; or you can make yourself a little sugar-free low-carb cheesecake or other dessert and bring that for yourself; or you can accept the piece of cake and not eat it and ditch it when no one is paying attention.

Do you think you would have time to try making one of the low-carb desserts from the recipe room here? In fact, isn't there a cheesecake thread circulating on this very part of the forum?

What do you think?

oh wow. you poor thing. yeah, you DO need a strategy of LC "subs" for snacks/drinks/desserts -- ALL that stuff is in here -- that's part of what makes this site so great -- that and the awesome support. gosh there are a zillion LC snacks/meals/sweets -- does your DH not LC with you? why not? that's tough. mine wasn't interested at first; he didn't need to lose weight; but now he's a believer; cause all of his "genetic medical issues" have dissipated! first thing is to get the stuff that tempts you OUT of the house. pure willpower is BS. you have to set yourself up for success by "legalizing" your kitchen!

September 4th i can do this, i can do this 151.1 today. I ate clean yesterday but forgot to pack my cheesecake muffin for my snack so my total points were only 17.1 I have to achieve 20 or I stall.

B-was crazy running around grocery shopping so only had time for coffee with 2 cream = 2;
L-store bought grilled chicken ceasar but used my dressing for a total of 4.1; coffee (can stall me if I have too much)= 2; flaked falvoured tuna found in my desk from a year ago - garlic and hot peppers :annoyed=2;
D-LC parmesian chicken (recipe from this site)= 7
TOTAL 17.1

I didn't eat my cheesecake muffin cuz I got home at 8:30pm and I'm having medical issues as well, so I tried not eating at least 3 hours prior to bed. I was still sick, so that's not the fricken answer. I deprived myself of my favourite snack all for not

Hang in there, eculmone, and try to remember to pack some snacks for yourself. Every time you find yourself annoyed that you forgot to set yourself up, use that annoyance as a reminder for next time! Planning ahead is so, so important.

Jonahsafta, congrats on your 2.2! That's awesome. You're doing great! I had a similar thing where I gained a pound last week but lost that pound plus a couple more this week.

Is it too late to add another September goal? I want to try pumpkin and squash at least twice this month. 2big posted some recipes over in the ML on the "Old foods out there that you CAN have" thread and they sound so good.
