I'm a little confused are you skipping induction and just going right to OWL or have you done induction and this is your start date for OWL phase 2 of Atkins?
Glad you love exercise cause that will help you a lot even if it doens't burn off a ton of cals it will allow you to burn off more carbs thuse creating a need for more body fat as fuel ![]() We have an ongoing OWL topic you are welcome to just jump in and back read as you need to. ZOr there will be a JUNE goals topic coming soon as several OWLers just finished their MAY goals

Good luck!!!! Breakfast suggestion: Rev Rolls with butter!!! And if you can handle it later on, cream cheese on Rev Rolls. Yes, that's cream cheese overload but as I said...you may be able to handle it and still lose. It depends upon the person. But, mmmmmmmmm...toast and cream cheese? Oh, it's the SHIZZLE.
Good luck and STAY THE COURSE! Hugs to you! |

Sunandpalms:
This is how I make mine... 3 OZ. (not tbsp.) cream cheese 3 eggs, whites separated from yolks, ABSOLUTELY NO yolk in the whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar pinch of salt I don't use any Splenda in mine if I'm using them for "bread-y" rather than dessert purposes. I find absolutely no need for it. ![]() 1. Whip the egg whites and cream of tartar with a mixer until they're very, very stiff; until you can turn the bowl over and nothing moves. This takes me about 3-4 minutes with my mixer. 2. Whisk together (or moosh with a fork) cream cheese, egg yolks and salt. 3. Fold the whites gently into the yolks. Don't go crazy with this. Let them be streaky. Folding entails taking some from the side and turning over into the MIDDLE of the bowl...not completely to the other side. That would be more like mixing and you want to keep plenty of air in the whites. 4. Spray a baking pan with Pam or use butter--whatever you have on hand so the rolls don't stick--and GENTLY dollop out six rolls. If you handle these too hard or slap them around, they'll sink like pancakes and just not cook right. You want them to sort of be very slightly flattened "mounds". 5. Bake in a 300 degree oven for 30-50 minutes, until they have a nice medium-brown crust that looks "cracked". Check them for your oven's specific timing--but DON'T check them before 25-30 minutes. You don't want to open the oven door or disturb them in any way until they're fairly well on their way toward done-ness. These taste better the second day. Butter them, add cream cheese to them, sprinkle on some cinnamon, there are a bajillion ways to do them as a breakfast. For a dessert, using Splenda (one packet) in the mix (add it to the yolk mixture) and then putting on a dollop of whipped cream when they're done and ready to be eaten makes a lovely, flaky dessert. For lunch, use as sandwich bread.

Can I ask you two something--and please understand I am not being snide, I'm being straightforward. If you've been bouncing around between WW and Atkins, what are you going to do differently this time to set yourself up for success? It must be demoralizing and a tad exhausting to keep revving up to start a new program only to give up and then start a completely different program.
Why are you choosing to do low-carb? Do you think you can stick with it? What tend to be your pitfalls and temptations? How do you plan to learn from your previous efforts? If you are floundering and feeling very down on yourselves, you might want to take some "time off" from dieting and really get your heads ready to commit. Re-read the book, write down reasons you want to do this, write down the reasons you're sick and tired of being overweight, think about your long-term goals, read through some threads in Maintain Lane or other areas where people talk about how they have reached their goals...I think the OWL thread here is pretty upbeat and has a lot of positive momentum, too. In other words, get yourself psyched and make sure you are not telling yourself--in some little defeatist corner of your mind--that this won't work and nothing ever works and you're destined to be overweight and unhappy about it. It's really largely a mental game, I'm not kidding. You've got to flex those willpower and commitment muscles in your head and tell yourself you DESERVE success. I wish you both good luck! Let us know how we can help you! |

Thanks Peanutte!
I keep wavering back and forth because of confusion of what is the healthiest diet. I keep coming back to low carb, because of the blood sugar/hypoglycemia/borderline diabetic thing....and I love feeling not hungry or shakey on low carb. But everytime I go for a while again, some other article comes up saying how bad fat is...or too much protein (I am in school becoming a nurse practitioner...so these articles come up all the time!!)....and I get confused again. I have taken time off from dieting....about 3 months...and gained 10 more lbs....during this time, I also had weekly appts with a hypnotherapist...to deal with the stress eating.....(he told me to forget all diets....hence the 10 lb gain)....I've had numerous tests done with my Naturopath, turns out I am hypothyroid and have virtually nil progesterone level.....another factor in weight gain and fatigue....."estrogen dominance" is quite popular for the 30-40 age group....and could be factor if someone is having trouble losing weight despite doing everything right. I've been on natural progesterone for 2 months now....and I am ready to try low carb again, and hopefully I will be more successful this time. I have Dr. Atkins books by my nightstand and read them all the time! Thanks for your concerns, and have agreat day! Natascha |

Are you on any actual thyroid medication, though? Hey listen. About eleventy gazillion of us around here are hypothyroid. I went through a period of two years where I gained weight so fast it wasn't even funny (as if it ever would be funny, but you get my point). But on my medication I feel great, especially after recommitting to Atkins. So there is plenty of hope, my dear. You can be hypo and lose weight and feel better. I just want to make sure it's being treated appropriately for you.
Maybe you should shoot for a plan like South Beach which isn't quite as fat-centric as Atkins, and which allows for more carbs. Maybe a middle-of-the-road between low-fat and low-carb would be comfortable for you. OR--you can also begin at Atkins Pre-Maintenance, with higher carbs and somewhat lower fat, and work backward to OWL, and you might find you never have to do Induction. I am quite sure I've heard 2big4mysize talk about that being a legitimate possibility for some people. I'm glad to hear you read the books. That's good. Yes, my dr has started me on a low dose of thyroxine, just the T4 was really low, not the T3....
I have done South Beach before, and I find I need the strict low carb....the extra carbs set me off craving more like a crazy woman!! LOL! It's the all or nothing mentality....but maybe with the thyroid meds and progesterone, that will be better...oh god I hope so!! I've read, and have almost every low carb book out there...ALL of Atkins books, mostly all the Eades books, Carb Addict, coconut diet, south beach.....got a big old bookcase full of them!! Natascha Thanks and have a great day! |

A lot of people are very sensitive to carb cravings, Nat. You're not alone in that. There are some threads on this forum for people who would describe themselves as carb addicts.
You sound very enthusiastic and I hope you find something that kicks in and seems to work for you and makes you feel really good! |

hey there nother hypothyroid here.
Since you are doing Atkins by your profile make sure you keep those goitrogen veggies on the induction foods lists consistant while your meds are being titrated. If you eat 1 serving a day then make sure you keep eating that serving or you could screw up you med levels. Also low carb low cal is a thyroid disater so make sure while you are doing induction you don't artifically restrict your cals too. Brodah Barnes did the initial study work on thyroid low carb and low cals and I'm sure you can find his stuff on the web still if you want to look it up. some folk will tell you it is 40 grams of carbs minimum but that wasn't waht his research said it is cals/carbs balance so if you keep your cals over 1450 while doing induction you shouldn't experience any low carb thyroid interferance and when you move to OWL and increase your healthy low AGR carbs your cals can go down if you need them too based on your metabolism. |

Good Luck to you!!! I just got back on Low Carb after being off for a very long time. Needless to say, my weight shows that I've been off!!! I started back on the path 2 weeks ago and I'm very pleased with how I feel and I'm seeing the weight come off!!! I'm gonna be posting often too because it's good to feel so much support. About 98% of the people I work with are overweight--all in varying degrees. Furthermore, they make TERRIBLE weight loss partners. They never stick to anything more than a day or too. So I surely do need some support and lots of fun people to run the path with!!!
