Truvia

What is the deal with this stuff? Is it actually better or worse than splenda? It says it has 3 carbs per packet.
What are the opinions on it?http://images.lowcarbfriends.com/lcf...lies/dunno.gif

I haven't bothered to read up on it, but gather it's some form of bulked-up stevia. I use pure stevia though so I have no use for substitutes.

The truvia peeps have a website if you want to research it; Home Page - Truvia™ - Nature's Perfect Sweetness™.

Truvia

I tried powdered stevia (the totally unrefined, green stuff) and didn't care for the bitter aftertaste. Ditto with the liquid extract. Truvia doesn't have most of the bitterness of the earlier stevia products. It's bulked up with maltodextrin to make it easier to measure. I do get a hint of bitterness from it in my coffee - a friend said she's heard that is a common problem with adding stevia to warm beverages. A shake of salt neutralizes it (and it doesn't make my coffee taste "salty").

I've used Truvia in whipped cream and it tastes fantastic. When blended with high-fat foods, it takes on a mouth-feel more like sugar.

Compared to Splenda, I'll take Truvia any day. Splenda has an odd mouthfeel to me - it seems to make my mouth feel drier. I prefer them both over aspartame, which has a horribly metalic aftertaste and gives me headaches

Actually it's bulked up with erythritol, which is in my opinion the best of the sugar alcohols. I use it in place of sugar all the time for adding sweetness to things, especially coffee and sauces.

This is my new favorite sweetner. I only really use it in Coffee, but it taste great, no problems with the sugar alcohol, erythritol, doesn't really do that like some of the others.

I really like it, I still use stevia extract, and all the other sweeteners, I'm not to picky, none have been an issue, but I only use them in my coffee, so not really alot

I use SweetLeaf brand stevia sweetner. It comes in packets that more granular. It's still a little bit "bitter", but the lack of artificial ingredients leads me to use it, and I have gotten used to it more over time. Worked well in almond flour cake.

I love it! And NO digestive distress!!!! (Which I get even from Splenda....I get weird gas bloat pains that feels like a heartattack!)........so, so far I have been using a couple packets a day...and NO problems at all! And it has a nice clear taste....no bitter aftertaste at all!

Tried it in a whip cream and cream cheese mixture tonight and it was delish!!!

oops....sorry, the one I have is Purevia....I think they are the same though!

I found the Truvia stuff to taste really bitter. Didn't like it at all. Yuck.
