Turnips are smaller and white with dark purple on the end. Rutabagas are larger and lumpier and they are a deep yellowish-brown color. Turnips are listed as part of the Induction-legal "other vegetables"; rutbagas are not. Hope that helps!

Terminology (names) are so confusing between US & Australia. I think what I bought were called Swedes here, which I thought were part of the turnip family. They had smaller white & larger red/brown 'turnips' in the same box 3 for $1 so I got 3 of the larger ones, wanting better value for my money! Looks like I bought Rutabaga's?? Will have to look into this some more I think.

this is what I bought (swede):-

Wikipedia says rutabega / swede are same thing (yellow turnip) = root vegetable

Rutabaga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turnips on wikipedia are classes as bulbus tubas, not root vegetables

FYI - my nutrition diary says turnips nett 4.6g/100g; rutabaga nett 5.6g/100g

Needing some advise, so I've come to the experts .

I have a very hectic schedule tomorrow (Saturday) and won't get meals at the usual times, probably will be on the fly. I'm planning on having a bigger breakfast (will add a piece of flax/almond meal bread to my eggs/bacon) and the I have time for another meal @ 2pm which will be a late lunch/early dinner.

I want to take a snack with me and the bananas I bought for DD are very tempting, they are going to go bad before she eats them all at this rate so I'd be saving one banana from the bin . But I know if I opt for this then I need to have fat/protein with it. I guess I could do banana/cinamon yogurt with PP. Maybe a Dobie banana flax muffin (although the calories in this are huge). Not sure what other combos, any suggestions - keep in mind I don't like peanut butter (& don't have other nut-butters or opportunity to buy any before tomorrow).

just checked the dobie muffin recipe (making sure I have the ingredients). Forgot the original is made with PP so the calories are way lower than if I use almond meal! Hmmm, think I might be baking tonight, although that doesn't solve the wasted banana delema!!

Wonder if DD will eat banana cake/bread made with coconut flour?

I really enjoyed my greek yogurt w/sf pudding mix yesterday. And I lost a lb. The yogurt was making me nervous, but I ate it and lost so I think I need another container!

you could just take your bread with you and have it as a snack since lunch will be late instead of overeating breakfast.

You could snack on an ounce of nuts or seeds or some cheese since you in OWL

glad you are able to add the yogurt. be careful with SF pudding as it is easy to over eat it especially if you make a bunch. It is best to do one serving at a time so you have time to stop and think about it while you are fixing the next serving should you decide you need more one day.

So I've had a normal sized breakfast (sausage & kale omlete) and have cashews & lindt 85%; yogurt with 1/2 banana, cinnamon, PP & cream for lunch on the run. Might have a small snack around 2:30 if I'm hungry. Have an Atkins bar to take to work this afternoon (can only take a fanny pack so has to be extremely portable food that doesn't require refrigeration).

I just added a teeny bit of the dry mix to the yogurt, I know better than to make the pudding itself.

My store does not carry the full fat kind so I am going to make yo-cheese with Dannon plain. I can get a large container for 1/2price of fage. I think linda Sue's site has the counts for yo-cheese.

there is no known count for yo-cheese as you would need to measure the amount of carbs going down the drain and it will be different for everybody.

The felow who made the false claims about yogurt having less carbs then the label and called it the yogurt exception made a huge error in his testing as he tested only for lactose and no other carbs. We all know the bacteria break down lactose and generate two other smaller sugars. those smaller sugars are still there in the yogurt plus any carbs in the bacteria's body.

Additionally the companies add back lactose to the finished product to keep the bacteria a live to the date on the carton. folk do not eat yogurt to get dead bacteria which would happen without any food for them to munch on while shipping and sitting on the shelf.

If you want to use a smaller number then use the number on the fage container plus any cream you add.

Okay 2big I got nervious that I would not know the carb count. I bought the 2% greek and I will add some fat to it. I could not get to trader joes to get the full fat brand.

I am doing really well. I am trying to continue to eat to hunger. Problem is around TOM I have hunger that I just can not seem to satisfy. I have noticed my calories going from 1300-2300 in a day. Its still a little nerve racking when I see the high number but the scale is still down slightly and most of all I feel thinner. My workouts are also very consistant. I really feel like I am on the right track. I am going to continue to take my time adding things back in.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

My body likes taking in about 10-15g of carbs daily right now, so when I start OWL, thanks to the advice from the wise-but-not-old OWL Oz, I will be bringing myself UP TO the 20g point the first couple of weeks. Should be fun. Only one more pound to go and I'm there!

Hi everyone. I really had a rough week but white knuckled through and calling it a victory. To make a long story short my uncle wound up in the hospital and I wound up caring for my disabled family member (who I love to pieces)

The first thing I wanted to do was eat. I had alot of urges over the week to do so but talked myself out of it. I did eat some pork rinds and I did make protein brownies and maybe I ate to many nuts in the Emergency room but I survived it!!

My weight is stable up and the 3-4pounds were its been.

Today I have already worked out and plan to get back to counting carbs and monitoring calories.

I decided to go back to just extra veggies for the week and move up the ladder next week. I just do not have the energy for everything!!!

glad you survived and conquored the Dr Brain prescribing high carb foods for the cure for your every emotional week.

Sounds like you got a good plan going for this week.

So, over the last few weeks, I've noticed that I'm eating the same things each day. The same breakfast, the same AM snack, the same lunch, the same PM snack and usually the same dinner.

Why do I do this? Cause I already know how many carbs I'm eating and how many calories to log. All I have to do is weigh out my portions. It's really easy and my meal prep time is next to nothing.

Problem: I am getting really, really bored eating the same foods. I want to mix it up, but I can't seem to find a good way to rotate meals so I don't have to wonder how many calories/carbs are in them.

I find I do better on lower carb intake even though I am in OWL. After having the longest weight loss stall ever (or so it seemed, 7 weeks) I was able to lose 4 pounds in 2 weeks by lowering my carb intake. (Also, bought a bodybugg to monitor my daily calorie burn, best thing EVER).

I have incorporated new foods into my meal plan, too. Blueberries are an occasional PM snack as are macadamia nuts.

My Current Meal Plan

BREAKFAST
-Low carb tortilla
-1 egg
-1 oz. cheese
-2 slices bacon
-1/2 tbsp. sour cream

AM SNACK
-100% Whey Protein Shake

LUNCH
-Low carb tortilla
-1 egg
-1/2 oz cheese
-1 Jimmy Dean sausage patty
-1/2 tbsp. sour cream

PM SNACK
-Atkins Peanut Butter Granola Bar

Dinner
-Hamburger Patty
-1/2 oz. cheese
-2 slices tomato
-1 cup broccoli

OR
-4 oz. grilled chicken
-1 cup broccoli
-2 slices tomato
-1 hard boiled egg

I can't seem to find the time to figure out a new meal plan. Anyone have any good meal plans or ideas for Breakfast, lunch and dinner, including snacks? I eat 1450 calories a day. 350 for breakfast and lunch. 150 for AM snack and 200 for PM snack. 400 for dinner.

Thanks, Jemima

Jemima, I still have eggs most mornings for breakfast. How about crustless quiche? Any variety of omlete?

Personally I'd ditch the LC tortillas & Atkins Bars, they are the most likely culprit in any stall and can up your carbs considerably compared to whole foods.

I try not to snack as I find snacking makes me hungrier. When I do get a mid-afternoon sweet attack diet jello and a tbls HWC is a good snack and under 100 calories, if you can spare the carbs it's good with berries too.

I try to have a variety of evening meals on our budget. Sausages are featuring quite a bit atm, both for budget and DD/Hubby love sausages. We've been getting good, no additive flavours from the butcher - tomato & caramelised onion beef sausages for example. Tonight will be plain chicken sausages with some spices (a mix available in Australia that we love), served with sauted pumpkin & mushrooms for me.

Have you looked at recipes on LindaSue's site? The Cajun Turkey meatballs are good (good for budgets too), I add chia seeds to mine to keep them moist - a tip I picked on on LCF. Mom's Crazy Cabbage is another good & budget friendly recipe. I halve the ingredients which is enough for one meal for us and fills my casserole dish. Made this last time with all the cabbage on the bottom and topped with cheese.
