belly button
So this is a rather embarrassing question, but here goes...
Has anyone noticed that their belly button has an odor? And if so, how were you able to fix the situation? Is it yeast? |

Ummm, dare I admit "yes"? I'm not going to talk about what I found in there when I used some tea tree oil and q-tips
I think it's dead skin and body oil, and of course the brew of bacteria and fungi that grow on the lovely moist dark spots. At any rate, I use tea tree oil at night with a q-tip and keep it clean. I also use the tea tree oil on places where I have too much skin. |

It is most definitely yeast. Trust me. I've been there. Done that. use some lotrimin cream and some gold bond powder and it will clear up IF you stay off the sugars. You may also benefit from some acidophilus tablets for a few weeks to get things right in your system.

It may be because I've been fat for so long but I've got to ask....If I lose enough weigh I can actually get close enough to my belly button to smell it?

hahaha... I'm hoping so... I won't go into details on how I noticed the odor, but it didn't require any bending..... I'm thinking it is from being at my fluffiest ever and the summer and moisture (ok, sweat) got trapped and decided to go to funky town. I'm going to get some tea tree oil when I have the $, but I'm going to try some hydrogen peroxide in the meantime to see if I can get it to go away... DH says he can't smell it and I'm probably just being over worried about being the smelly fat girl...

I know where you're coming from!
I think it's just smegma...you know accumulation of dead skin etc. You get the same under foreskins, and in stretched ear piercings( I took my stretchers out for this very reason) Sorry for the gross out everyone! ![]() Oh and yes, tea tree oil diluted in some warm water and a q-tip is as good as anything. Keeping it clean is the main thing Last edited by miss sparky; 09-13-2008 at 02:08 PM.. |

I had an interesting conversation at the vet on Friday... My dog had ear infections, which turned out to be caused by yeast (common for floppy eared dogs, ears get wet and can't dry out properly). So she suggested the cream people use for athletes foot and then mentioned, rather out of context, that it works really good on belly buttons that get funk... I know I didn't smell cause I had just cleaned it with tea tree oil, so maybe she was just chatting because of our common chunkiness... anyway, thought I would share with everyone... I'm going to keep with the tea tree for a bit because I prefer natural, but now I have a back up
(I would have put the tea tree in my dog's ears, but it has such a strong smell that he leaves the room when I open the bottle and I didn't think he would like having that smell in his ears so close to his nose) |

I just read about something similar in the Sept. issue of 'First' magazine--not exactly the same, but may help. Someone had written in that his/her belly button was oozing. The doctor said it could be due to warm conditions, perspiration, bacteria and fungi. She said soap won't eliminate the problem, and recommended full-strenght tea oil (like Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil), and use it twice daily. If that doesn't work, she said to see your doctor for an antibiotic.
Bottom line, sounds like those who recommended tea oil were right on! BTW, you must be very flexible to get your nose down there to smell, LOL. |

I am flexible, but can't quite get through the belly roll to get to my BB
... I accidentally found the smell when I had an itch and then a few minutes later had to blow my nose and noticed the odor... I was so embarrassed and worried that EVERYONE could smell my BB funk, but DH and a couple of friends assured me that I do not smell strange, THANK GOODNESS! This has been a huge motivator in getting the pounds off, but I think such I have a major innie, that this will probably be around even when I am a skinny minny and don't make sure to keep the area dry.... oh well, at least it isn't something worse! |
