Cravings :(

I did Atkins ages ago and unfortunately I need to try to do it again. I remember the cravings being killer for me at times. What are some tips that you may have regarding this? Thanks in advance.

kkep a food journal and log the Ws to who what when where why and how you felt before during and after you ate both right away and an hour later. then you can begin to figure out what foods if any, events places or even people are triggerring your cravings and take steps to avoid them.

Good plan! What are some good "grab and go" snacks?

I guess I am what you call an emotional eater. It gets hard.

I am also returning to Atkins but this time am using a lot of the recipes posted on this site. I had to admit to myself that without a "Treat" each day, it was easier to cheat so now, I make a treat each day. During the first week I bought an ice cream maker and have loved the custard ice cream! The cheddar cheese chips, the revie rolls with cream cheese on them have become stables of mine for my treat. Luckily, between good food and treats there hasn't been a moment of craving. I suggest you make a plan on what satisfies your taste buds and find a low carb recipe to match. Good luck, Mariah

I would like to add that once the sugar detoxes from your body, I don't seem to crave sweets anymore.

When I want a "goodie" I gulp down some water, or even SF jello.

This is my first post. A friend of mine told me about LCF and his new WOE and so I've been lurking here for a couple months. Decided to take the plunge today.

I did induction in April and lost 10 pounds initially. Another 4 since.

But to the topic...I've been training my brain to accept other options when I have cravings. One of my weaknesses was always chips. So, now I substitute cucumber slices. It gives me the grab and crunch satisfaction.

I also do drink diet soda from time to time (w/o aspartame if possible) and chew sugar free gum when I'm feeling like I have a sugar craving. It makes my brain think I'm having sugar because of the sweetness in taste.

None taken... Different strokes for different folks...

Pork rinds are 100% fat, which is perfect for us... They are really good when used as a scooper to scoop tuna & mayo... among many others...

actually pork rinds are not 100% fat they are a protein matrix with fat in it so don't go too wild chowing down on porkrinds.

Dr Atkins informed the DUKE docs doing that famous Atkins diet study 1 cup a day was the limt on them.

jicama is a great crunchy induction snack sliced like chips and then dipped in your favorite dip or with lime juice and chili podwer dusting.
fired kale or spinach is crunchie as are the cheese chips.
flax chips are good too 1t flax 1t water mix spread thin on parchement paper and nuke till dry.

spicey snacks can be hot peppers, pepper cheese ,curried beef chicken or pork.

some folk make splenda jello using splenda sweetened soda and dry gelatin packets.
dill pickles, olives, slices of veggies too. look at the acceptable foods list and figure out what you want.

When I'm feeling the urge to really binge, I usually nuke some mozzarella & pepperoni...not the healthiest snack but the fat kills the cravings.

Oh man, the cheese chips really satisfy those naughty cravings! Can't remember where I found this, but I love 'em.

Use fresh grated parmesan (not the powdery stuff you put on spaghetti) or any other hard cheese. I usually buy the shredded bag of parmesan, asiago, and romano.

put little piles on a silicone baking sheet (you can buy a silicone mat to put on a cookie sheet just about anywhere) about the size of crackers or cookies.

smooth them out so they are mostly uniform in thickness

put 'em in the oven and bake at 350 until they start to brown.

put them on a wire rack to cool and harden.

You can also drape them over something while they are still hot & flexible to make them into little taco shells or "scoop" style chips for dips.

MAN, they are SO good! It's like eating goldfish crackers, but almost zero carbs! Plus they satisfy that crunchy chip craving, and you can use them with low carb dips. Beats the pants off of the flax crackers.

Oh goody, just found the link: Oven-Baked Cheese Crisps Recipe
