Frankenfood - may cause you to fall off wagon? I've not used 'Heinz' but found the others out their to stall and not taste as good. I think there may be a recipe on the boards?

I use it too, and love it. It's too bad you can't get it in the stores anymore, but Netrition carries it. I can't imagine using enough of it to cause a stall, but I use it sparingly and not very often.

I use it for the whole family. I had switched to an organic kind so we didn't get the high-fructose crap, and I just refrained altogether.. so I'm happy to find something I can indulge in and it doesn't stall me and it tastes really good. However, I am going to be experimenting w/ making my own, so I can use stevia. We'll see how that goes.

I would have to disagree with "Frankenfood" it is the same ketchup but with artificial sweetener instead of high fructose corn syrup. I would have to say the regular heinz would be equally frankenfoodish in that HFCS is artificial.
It tastes just the same as the regular. I seem to recall it being thicker when it first came out but I just bought some of the reduced calorie stuff (new labeling same product?) and it seems more watery. The new labeling means the local grocers are carrying it again after years of not so I can't complain about that. |

Check out the Heinz website and you can see what the new package looks like. I think now it is green instead of "low carb blue". If you write 'em and tell them how much you like their product and appreciate catoring to low sugar customers, they just may send you a coupon for their product. (not that I did this . . . ) I don't use ketchup much anyway so a bottle lasts a long time. It is pretty good. I think my Ketchup drinking BF might be able to tell the difference, but then he's a ketchup snob ![]() The stores that carry Heinz ought to carry this version according to the website. You may have to ask your store to carry it specifically ,but I've bought it at Kroger.

If any one is near the Athens, Ga Big Lots Store on Atlanta HWY, I just saw a whole shelf of the blue label Heinz 1 Carb Ketchup for $1.30.
Unfortunately, the best by date is 10/08, but as BF stated we've only seen ketchup go bad that's been opened. I got four bottles. That ought to last a year ![]() |

Yeah, I've got a supply laid in too. I don't use it very often, so a bottle goes a long way. Before Netrition carried it, I found a place on the internet and bought six bottles because I was afraid Heinz was going to quit making it.

I live in the UK and this ketchup is not available but what I use for ketchup is tomato puree and I've found that I prefer this now over anything else and to my surprise, so do my kids! The best thing is there's only one ingredient on the package - tomatoes.

This is the recipe that I use, for Ketchup. You can find this recipe on my "recipe circus" link, at the bottom of my post.
This can be ketchup or cocktail sauce, depending on the tomato sauce. The recipe carbs, for the entire recipe, are 23.5 for ketchup and 38.5 for cocktail sauce. Makes about 3 cups List of Ingredients 3 cups tomato sauce 2 tablespoons sweetner(Splenda) 2 teaspoons onion powder 1/2 cup white vinegar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon allspice (If you want to make cocktail sauce, use italian style tomato sauce, with the spices, and add 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, to these ingredients.) Recipe Mix entire ingredients together, in a medium size saucepan. Simmer for about 1 1/2 hours, until thickened, stirring once in a while. Cool and store in a glass jar, in the fridge. Keeps a long time. If I make cocktail sauce, I add horseradish, but, this is your option. .................................
