WOW! First week on Induction, my weight loss is...

9 pounds!!! Can you believe it! I am so excited! I didn't do this well the first week when I did Atkins 3 years ago!

I really think it's because I'm being really careful and not eating any frankenfoods at all this time around. Last time, I was eating Atkins bars pretty much every day, and many of my carbs were from those.

I have since discovered that I am allergic to Splenda, so that rules out pretty much any and every special low carb product out there. That was pretty scary at first - I wondered and still wonder if I'll be able to do this without the Atkins bars and other products I grew to love. But I'll keep on keepin' on and seek out foods that don't require artificial sweeteners as much as possible.

Just had to share my success - I'm so very happy and excited! I'm hoping for at least a 2 pound loss this week so I can get into the 160's again. I haven't been there in 2 years or more, so that will be awesome!

That's awesome! KUTGW! Feels good, doesn't it? You'll find your clothes fitting looser and more comfortably in no time. And way to go on cutting out the frankenfoods -- that's really the only way to do it!

Way to go Vicki, keep up the good work. How did you find out you were allergic to Splenda? What was going on with you, that made you get that checked out?

woo hoo great start to your plan.

I'm splenda challenged as well and can tell you it can be done and is actually pretty easy once you get it in your mind you can't buy frankenfoods and will have to make your own foods.

Thanks for all your congrats! It feels so good to be back in control again!

And since Healthy Lady T asked, here is my Splenda story:

I discovered my Splenda allergy when I plunged into a deep depression for no apparent reason. I was having thoughts of just getting in my car to drive away and leave everything behind (I have a DH and 3 kids I love - I would never rationally want to do something like that.), I had feelings that no one really liked me, my friends were just pretending they liked me, my family could do better without me around, and I was anxious about things too. I was just lonely and not wanting to do anything - I would hole up in my room and hide out often, sometimes in tears for no good reason.

Just as I was about to call my doctor, I remembered coming across info linking Splenda to depression online a couple of years ago when I first started using it and was concerned about the safety of it. So I went online, googled "Splenda, depression" and found others with the same or similar stories to mine. I immediately cut Splenda out of my diet, and in 2 short days I felt a whole lot better, and within a week I was back to normal! I haven't had Splenda since January, and I feel excellent! No more crazy mood swings or feelings of loneliness or inadequacy.

And thinking back on it, I think my body was giving me signals 3 years ago when I fell off the Atkins wagon. I kept trying to get back on program, and would eat Atkins bars at breakfast, as I had been doing for months. Every day I tried to get started again, I would have severe, agonizing stomach cramps that would leave me curled up in a ball on my bed. That is another symptom people with a Splenda sensitivity have shown/experienced. I thought at the time it was my gallbladder, but now I'm wondering if it may have actually been the Splenda.

I probably will never know what caused the stomach cramps, but the depression and horrible loneliness I felt at the beginning of this year, along with how quickly it went away when I stopped using Splenda were enough to convince me NEVER to touch the stuff again.

I really don't think everyone will be affected the same way, but if you are having some kind of health troubles and you can't figure out why, it may be worth looking into.

It frustrates me that no one in the medical community and certainly not that company that manufactures Splenda will acknowledge this issue. If you say anything, you are treated like some lunatic and basically shoved aside. I try to educate people as often as I can, and I hope someday the truth will come out.

Splenda is NOT as safe as they say it is.

Congrats Vicki, I too have lost 8 lbs myself. I am not allergic to splenda but I am giving up all chemicals. Everything I eat will be all natural. Trader Joes

I am fine giving up snacks and all of that. The most important thing for me is getting all of my veggies everyday. They help me feel better. I even eat veggies for breakfast.

I took a snack pack with celery stick, carrot sticks and tomatoes with ranch dip to the movies. LOL

If you ever need a natural sweetener, try stevia.
