I was convinced I was an out of control binge eater...

till I came back to Atkins! I had even looked into counseling to get myself under control. I also looked up info about gastric bypass or gastric banding. My former diet buddy, who did Atkins with me the first time around, had gastric bypass a year ago, and looks and feels fabulous - she has lost 88 pounds! Even though I'm happy for her, it has been very hard to still be fat. I found out last week that I was only 15 pounds away from being eligible for the surgery.

For a very short while I thought about gaining enough weight so I could have the surgery, but then decided that just isn't for me.

So after really thinking hard about all the diets I have tried, all the "fresh new beginnings" , I thought back to how I looked and felt on Atkins 3 years ago, and it was one of the happiest, healthiest times of my life!

Here I am on my 3rd day of Induction, and this self-diagnosed "binge eater" is cured! Turns out I'm not a binge eater - as long as I eat the right things!

So happy to be here again....this time for good!

Vicki

I am so glad that you decided to do Atkins and not have surgery. You can do this woman. I know you can.

Keep the food simple and fresh. It will pay off.

Good for you for making the right choice for you -- I read the comment about gaining weight so that you could have the surgery and it seemed ironic to me that you would GAIN weight to lose it ... It shows how badly we want to make this work.

Good for you! I know you can do this -- Congrats :-)

I know what you mean, I used to think I'm addicted to carbs, or I'm a compulsive eater, things like that. Turns out I was just hungry because of the things I was eating making me hungry. Once I was on Atkins - hunger demon exorcised and no carb addiction or compulsive eating.

Compulsive tea drinking, maybe.

Vicki, like the others said, YOU CAN DO IT! And when you get discouraged and the scale wont budge, one really good tool will be to think back to three yers ago when you felt and looked so good. See yourself as the Vicki of 3 years ago and it will help you move toward that person (she is still hiding inside you.) And remember, that Vicki did not have surgery to acieve her goals so this Vicki doesnt need to either. She did it before so she knows she can do it again!

I was rarely a binge eater, but I was a very careless eater. Walk past a bunch of crackers or biscotti on the kitchen counter and without thinking, I'd pop something into my mouth every time I passed by. Dumb, brainless eating which got me 30 pounds heavier than I was 5 years ago on Protein Power.

This was my second day on Induction and I am so full, so satisfied, and feeling so good. And like you, I ask myself how I could have let this happen. I have been slowly losing weight over the past 4-5 months just by sticking pretty close to Atkins (Lost 10 pounds) but now have gotten really serious and am not eating anything not "on the list" determined that by the end of summer I will begin to discover that I still have bones buried somewhere on my body.

WE can do it!

OH YES< ME TOO. Not compulsive, but plenty of "hunger demons" attack me when I eat the wrong stuff.

Although not diabetic, I have got a slightly goofy pancreas (diabetes runs in my mother's family although she didnt have it) and so I have never tolerated starches/sugars well. They always made me crave. And eat! Not only eat, but eat "stoopidly"

I've been lucky to escape the family curse so far, but sure dont want to be part of yet another generation of my family to get type ll diabetes (have cousins with it) So, I owe it to myself to lose the blubber for good. And stay away from what I know very well is poison for me. And this is the place to hang out and get into the right way to eat--and live. Yes, it truly is a WOL.

ME TOO! ME TOO,
I restarted June 1st and am down 10 pounds. I had found all the weight that I lost 4 years ago. Been hating the way I alook and the way I feel.
Why O Why did I abandon the way of eating that I know is right for me? I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in this boat.
I didn't post often just lurked, when doing lo carb before maybe that needs to change. Accountability anybody?

I am the same way!!!

Take me away from Atkins as a lifestyle, and I eat literally thousands of calories per day and make myself soooo sick! I mean it! I didn't gain 150 pounds in a year by snacking lightly. I gorged, binged, was depressed, and then did it again.

I am reborn in Atkins and find I have to make myself eat a lot of the time, because I am never hungry.

vicki71!

it's nice to know i'm not the only one. all of the posts on this thread mirror my experience as well!

yesterday, i was wearing a favorite pair of jeans, and as i was walking, i felt something on my backside. went to brush it away, and realized it was a bit of extra material that me shrinking caboose left behind, lol

to my fellow inductioneers!

I can so relate to all of your posts. I lost 100 pounds back in 2001 on Atkins (took me about a year) and it was the lowest weight I had been at in years! I remember oh so well waking up full of energy, my hip and knee pains gone, hunger under control. Why oh why do we forget how wonderful we feel when we're eating pure.

Anyway, I'm back with a vengeance. I did it before and I can do it again. I started out with a 2 day water fast and I just finished my first week of induction at 14 pounds gone (most of it water loss, but that's okay). Now I don't have to worry about hunger pangs so strong they would wake me out of a sound sleep. No more blood sugar spikes...just nice and easy and balanced....

We CAN do this and we will. Here's to a wonderful journey to release our healthy thinner selves.

hugs!

Kathy,
I remember you from back then. I lurked & lost, then regained. This WOE is so much better for me. I am in control of my eating again.
Your name says it for me too. Yes we can! I'm doing it too. this time I've added exercise to help keep it up and off.
