Having trouble finding low iron vitamin

Can anyone help me find a multivitamin I could take? Last time I did Atkins, it was during the low carb craze, and vitamins specially formulated for low carb dieters were very easy to find.

Everything I'm finding now has iron included in it. Is it OK to take regular vitamins, or do I need to find a low iron vitamin to take? I don't know if having too much iron is OK or not, and I definitely don't want to overdo it if it's not OK.

Thanks for any feedback!

If your iron is low, I take Goldline ferrous sulfate 100 ct in the box for under $10. My iron was very low 3 months ago. I started taking 2 each day. I also take B 12 injections. They started me off with one a week for a month and now Im taking one shot each month. That helps with the energy levels. I just got my bloodwork back today iron is within good levels. My Doc says dont go pay a bunch for the iron.

My breast doctor recommended Green Source Iron Free. They found a small lump (benign thank GOD) but apparently iron will increase the growth of some lumps.

Thanks everyone! I purchased the WalMart brand of Centrum Silver today - much to DH's delight! lol He is 2 years younger than me, so he loves to remind me that I'm sooo much older than he is. The senior citizen vitamins really aren't helping matters in that area much! lol

I don't know, but if I remember correctly, it says in the book that you need a multivitamin without iron. I don't know if it's because you can get too much, or if it's just assumed you'll get enough from the meats you'll be eating and you won't need any more from a vitamin. Hopefully someone will be able to answer that question for both of us - I'm curious about that as well.

I've heard Centrum Silver is ok too. But, the fact that it is meant for senior citizens doesn't mean anything? It won't be lacking or over compensating for the vitamins I need? I am 21.

Does adding vitamins to your weight loss routine create a greater weight loss than you would get without them? Did that sentence make sense? lol

if before you started your weight loss you were healthy and had absolutely no vit defiencies ( something Dr Atkins has serious doubts about) and you very carefully select your foods to meet the recomended daily allotment of vits and minerals which is hard to do during induction then no it will not have any effect on your weight loss.

However if you are defieince in any vit and/ormineral that effect metabolism or effects a chemical that will be produced (low calcium stimulates the parathyroid which releases a chem that interfers with thyroid which slows metabolsim and weight loss) then taking a good quality VP with minerals will help you.

Also some folk don't get enough caritine and since that chemical is used in the trasportation of fatty acids in energy production in mitochondrias something every low carber wanting body fat loss will be needing to happen those folk can benifit from adding that toi their supplements too.

I am over 10 years into menopause, no period to lose iron. My ferritin level was 24 and it's supposed to be 50. I think we all need to be tested occasionally to find out if we are low...they say it's pretty common. I have RLS (restless leg syndrome) and was told that my low iron level could be causing this, so I'm on supplements. I will be tested again in August to see if my level has gone up. Long story short, don't just assume that you have normal levels, go find out

yep lots of women are poor iron absorbers so even on Atkins they will need a VP with iron in it. have your doc decide based on your blood work and eating what supplements you need. I need potassium and calcium during my extended induction along with my VP which had iron in it. When I got to OWL and beyond all I needed was my VP with the iron still. I am and were post menapausal the whole time and my blood work has been fine with no added supplements on an ongoing bases. there are some hot sweaty days i will need some potassium before bed to avoid night time leg cramps but not every night and usually I know from how things feel if I need it or not. Last night i misjudged and woke up with leg cramps popped the OTC pottassium per my docs instructions and the cramps were gone this morning.

I'm always a tad low on iron and menopausal as well. However if I even eat too much iron-rich food, it binds me up. Therefore, I don't go near iron supplements.

I take them with lots of Vitamin C, it prevents that.

I take ones with iron as they were the only ones I could get at the time.
Too much iron makes your poo black! ( No I haven't looked!) I hope it doesn't do me harm!!!

You'll only know that if you have your doctor test your ferritin level. Mine was low (24-supposed to be above 50).
