want to do organic meat but $$$$ !
I did atkins 9 mo ago and lost 25 lbs. I slipped up during the winter but want to do induction again. My problem- last time I did it, I used artificial sweetners and ate all sorts of products, some with artificial this and that, and non-organic meat. This time around, I want to go all natural.
I worry about eating so much meat, what with the hormones and stuff that is in non-organic products. But I'm also worried about spending the $ on all the "good stuff", since the economy is so bad. I know I can use other protein sources instead of meat, and not spend the $ on the only-organic meat.. any suggestions for saving $ and doing it "all natural?" Also sweetners- I have some stevia but don't like it. What else can I use? thanks! |

I buy organic as often as i can. including meat...and I dont have money falling out of my pockets.
like last night...g shopping and browsing at the chx. I believe the amish organic stuff was around $1.29-39 a pound for a whole fryer. Anytime a meat price is close to .99 a lb I think I'm doing good. I ended up buying a mgrs special fryer chx for .89 a lb. best advice is just to learn your grocery stores and the products they carry. and dump all sweeteners. (we all have a diff vice...thankfully mine aint that)good luck on having good intentions. organic/natural or not...dont let that stop you from making good choices about your health. ![]()

Pork is not treated with growth hormones. I eat a lot of pork as a result, plus the fact that I love pork.
I can't afford organic meats and the organic meats available are all low-fat. Not appropriate for me, eating 70% of my calories from fat every day! I just take some Milk Thistle to help out my liver. Artificial sweeteners (all of them) jack with my blood sugar so I avoid them as much as possible. |

Try to find a food-buying club near you. I belong to two. We're buying a hog, a cow, and a bison in the next month, between the two. I'm getting 1/4 the hog, 1/8 the cow, and none of the bison (I already have about 1/16th of a bison left from the last time we did this). We're also talking about getting a couple of lambs.
