Today I had a Jimmy John's Unwich. It's basically one of their sandwiches made as a lettuce wrap. I had a Billy Club, which is ham, roast beef, hellman's mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, dijon mustard and provolone cheese. There are about 7.5 net carbs in the whole thing, but I can only eat half of one, so I ended up with less than 4 carbs in the entire meal. I don't know if you have Jimmy John's in your area, but if you do, here's an interactive tool you can use to calculate their carbs. (Remove the bread and then add "unwich" as an item.)
Jimmy John's Nutrition Watch out for the sodium though! Hope this helps. |

yep. I haven't lost a lot yet, but I'm losing inches, and I feel better and better. When I started I did NO cooking at all. Now I do a little. Fried eggs. Scrambled eggs. Hamburger crumbled and fried with a little garlic powder and dried onion (pretty good with a dollop of sour cream on top.) Fried pork chop or steak. Can you tell I cook mostly in one frying pan? I also really like smoothies made with protein powder and whatever. If you have a blender I'll tell you more about that.
But before all that I'd buy a cooked chicken at the supermarket. Eat some hot. Cut some of the cold stuff up and eat it with mayo. There are lots of deli meats without fillers that you can eat cold or nuke 'em for a minute or two. My local market has pretty good roast beef, ham....... If you have to eat fast food, you can stick a fork in a baggie and take it with you. Order a cheeseburger and eat it with out the bun. Canned tuna. Canned chicken. Throw snacks in a baggie to take along. Cold meat. Cheese. Some nuts. Buy pre-packaged salad greens and mix with a little bottled dressing in a bowl (or in another baggie if you're out and about.) Buy pre-cut veggies like broccoli and cauliflower. Cook them in a little pan with some water, or just eat them raw dipped in mayo or dressing or both. Is that a start? ask the resturant you want to go to during a nonbusy period how they prepare the foods veggies and if you can get your foods without the sauces that have sugar and flour in them. Most places are very accomadating. Ask what is in the eggs omlettes etc too cause many folk didn't know IHOP had pancake batter in its omlettes until they read about it on low carb boards after they had eatten one.

Subway will make you a salad version of many of their sandwiches. McDonald's caesar salad with grilled chicken is surprisingly good.

All good suggestions. I also like Qdoba for a good low carb meal. I have them put their steak on a bed of lettuce then put on some of the extra-hot salsa with sour cream, cheese and guacamole.
Carl's Jr. will "low carb" any of their burgers (just watch for BBQ sauce!) by wrapping them in lettuce. My fav is the bacon guacamole burger. If I can't find one of these two and I have to get fast food, I hit Wendy's or BK and get a double/triple burger with no ketchup or bun. Knife and fork required. Get steaks, broiled chicken at sit-down joints and get an extra side of broccoli instead of mashed taters. Ruby Tuesday's has mashed cauliflower. Just some of my favorite suggestions! |

It's always all right to order OFF THE MENU anyplace.
Quote:
JackieO is said to have ordered broiled or baked fish and a dinner salad at all the elegant restaurants she went to. Imagine being that consistent in ordering, no matter what, to get just what you want to fuel your body. Good luck in this. When I am more able to get about, I plan on eating out quite a bit, as I am not the world's best cook. Maybe not the worst, but not patient enough to be a really good cook. I scramble all right. I can boil eggs. That's about it for me. I'm managing with mostly canned fish right now. But in a restaurant, I do like ordering fresh fish. So let us know how you like ordering OFF THE MENU to get your LC meals! |

If I could eat out every meal I would probably have lost a lot more by now.
Not having carbs in the house (for my family) would be GREAT! Going to a restaurant and ordering salads and protein...or veggies and protein - I'd probably eat a lot less cheese, too. And, few restaurants have more than a sprinkling of nuts on anything. Yep. I could slide into your shoes real easy!!! Good Luck! |

I think the only problem with eating out all the time is that the Sodium content is VERY HIGH. Things like Burgers, suasages and bacon, grilled chicken and Salad dressings contain a lot as well. I think it can be done, just watch your sodium because water retention is possible too. Water, Water, Water! Good luck!!

I'd avoid sauces...try places with salad bars...
And drink water, not diet soda... |
