congrats on your great start.

Your sweetner answer will depend on which Atkins folk are doing aspartame was the sweetner of choice for the 92 version it didn't exist for the 72 version and 2002 switched to Splenda as sweetner of choice cause of the soda stall issue. At least that was what was on the Atkins website backn 2002 and 03
Dr Atkins discovered that about 25% of the folk who contacted him or his office who were stalled out who when advised to stop drinking diet sodas became unstalled, so they looked for the cause in the sodas of those stalls. Unfortunately the study done that blamed aspartame was flawed cause it didn't eliminate other potential stalling factors and simply said aspartame as the sweetner was the cause. The flaw was discovered when another university tried to replicate the study and found citric acid in the studied soda could have been the cause too.

But if 25% of those stalled doing Atkins who contacted Dr Atkins were unstalled when they removed the aspartame sodas from thier diets you might should you stall out remove it from your WOE and see what happens. Richard Simons removed diet sodas from his eating and told a talk show audience he dropped 15 pounds of bloat afterwards.

I first started Atkins with the '02 version and have been scared to death of aspartame ever since - I hadn't read this new info, 2big4mysize! Thank you for posting it!

your welcome I was checking out the study links and found the second study's report about the flaws in the testing method and when one read carefully the page on the Atkins site it was talking only about 25% of the folk stalled WHO CONTACTED Dr Atkins and his staff. not 25% of all Atkins dieters just of those stalled folk who contacted them.

of course you can find all kinds of scare pages on the net about the evils af aspartame but if you look for scientific studies to back their claims it is usually my cousin's sister's boyfriend's mother's uncle's daughter said it did .... to her. Now some folk do have issues with it but some folk also have issues with Splenda too.

I do know a couple of people who say Splenda gives them headaches and such; it didn't even occur to me that it could be the same with aspartame. I won't be as hesitant to include those products (sparingly, of course) once I'm out of induction again.
