I messed up and now the stick won't turn purple

Well, you read it folks. I posted a question on the board the other day about SF jello asking whether people had experiences stalling on it -- I think I secretly knew that I was one of those people who probably shouldn't have it ... anyways, I don't know whether it was the cream (1 cup, whipped) mixed with the whole pack to make this really cool desert ... Anyways... I wasn't eating that much in one serving.. BUT I think it maybe lead to my demise..

ANYWAYS -- it started out okay -- the sticks still turned the right color yesterday -- however, I overindulged and had the whole thing finished yesterday -- rather than stop there, I made another batch and ate that too .. throughout the day I watched as my stick turned a more pail shade of pink until finally about 1 hour ago I looked and it won't turn color... I don't know why I didn't quit while I was ahead.. but the "sweet" was really my fix.. and so now I'm starting over again fressh (now -- not tomorrow )

Are there any other low-carbers out there who find that they really should just stear clear of ANYTHING sweet?? I seriously need some coaching from someone who has given up all sweet things all together because I know it is what I need to do if I'm going to lose another 20 lbs...

A couple of years back, there was a challenge to see which plan was more effective for weight loss - Stillmans or Atkins. Well, Stillmans wins that hands down, but it's a temporary program, never meant to be sustainable over the long term. But I digress.

I was on the team that did Stillmans. One thing I noticed was when I introduced sugar free jello to my regimen, I stalled. I took it back out and started losing again. If I had to have something sweet after dinner, I drank a cup of tea with sweetener in it. That was my sweet treat and nothing else.

I find that for me and my personality, what works best is for me to give up all treats - sugar free whatevers. A very good natural sweet treat would be a quarter cup of berries with a splash of cream. Try to give it up altogether, but if you can't have a cup of tea or some berries.

Back to induction, and you'll be turning those sticks purple in no time.

I read in Bernstein's (diabetes) book that sugar free jello has carby filler in it I guess the premade jello cups are OK and don't have it (but check the label for maltodextrin and such) but the more economical mix you make yourself does. Could be that was what stalled you!

For me, it didn't matter. When I was on Stillmans and sf jello stalled me out, I was eating the premade ones. I just don't think it's good for us at all. However, I've heard of a homemade brew you can make with unflavored gelatin. It's supposed to be o.k. There's probably info about it in the recipe room.

I am one of those Splenda challenged folk. Anything sweetened with Splenda sends me on a carb food binge wanting so I have to avoid it but I have discovered that about 3 weeks into my sweetener free atkins that veggies and chicken and steak started tasting sweet Since I was cooking them myself I knew there were no added carbs nor sugars in any seasonings nor sauces. Our taste buds become resensetized to sugar agasin when we don't bombard them with sugar. Folk laugh but sweet red peppers taste like candy to me and I'm very happy munching away on my pepper strips while everybody around me is chowing down on candy.
If you want the jello then buy yourself some plain gelatin like the Knox brand and use diet soda like Diet Rite Tangerine as your flavoring and see if it was a filler or the sweets themselves.

BUT remember your stix turn colors to indicate the concnetration of excess ketones your body had spill over from your blood stream at the time that urine was made so if you didn't have any excess ones to spill out then your stix will not turn colors. Also stix only measure one type of ketone body the one used for fuel ( their are 3 currently known types in the body) so if you were using those ketone bodies as fuel you wouldn't have any excess neither.

No aspartame or processed sweeties for me. I'm switching off my aspartame diet sodas onto splenda sodas (I'm OK with Splenda). I just got tired of battling cravings and eating way more than I intended every time I tried to eat legal, low-carb sweets.

I'm a lot better off eating some berries and whipped cream if I'm really jonesing for sweet. Usually, I find some bacon and an ounce of cheese works pretty well for cravings.

Thanks for all the advice guys ...
I don't get what is happenign to my body -- I mean, I could eat sugar-free candies before with no problems, dranks up to 4-5 cans of splenda pop per day and STILL lost 100 lbs ... recently it seems I can't have ANY of those things without gaining weight ... I haven't changed my carb count drastically either.. what the heck!?!?!!?

How tall are you? Maybe you're getting close to goal.

Just walking around weighing 265 is bound to be some exercise. Now that you're close, I don't know.

If you're not working out you might start now. All the happy maintainers I know are working out regularly. Even something moderate a couple times a week is good.

have you accounted for the lower weight body needs less fuel to do the exact same things ? about 9 cals/pound so for you that would be 918 cals.

Also all it takes is one carb over your personel limit for weight loss to stop so check your foods and see where your CCLL is and if you are exceeding it.

I'm having a lot of trouble with my Low Carb diet this time around as well, so your not alone. I will have been on it 1 month tomorrow and I've gone from 305lbs - 294lbs. That's just 11lbs in a month. My first time on this diet I lost almost 25lbs in the first month. That is a huge difference. I can't seem to figure out why it is happening but I stay positive and remind myself that I am still dropping weight nonetheless. I do mild weight training and also hike for about 15-20 miles a week, to an elevation of around 6,000 ft so I get plenty of exercise. Just not sure why the weight isn't coming off faster.

I've learned over the years that when it comes to losing weight including the Low Carb WOE, your body has a memory and each time you stop and restart your WOE, your body will fight against you. Many Low Carbers, including myself find it more difficult to lose the same amount of weight as they did the very first time they tried Atkins. I lost over 20 pounds during my first two weeks of Atkins the first time around, but now I'm lucky to lose 6 to eight pounds. The weigh will come off, it's just not going to be as sweet as that very first time. Isn't that true about most things in life...

Hang in there, it does get better for us rebounders. It just takes a little longer the second or third time around.

If you're a First Timer...STICK WITH IT and try not to give up because you may not have the same success on your second time around or at least not as quickly.

I'm in the same boat with my restart. I saw a thread on here somewhere about that effect.

Just keep this in mind though. If you can maintain the 11lbs./mo or even 10, that's 120-132lbs. lost in a year! Not too bad!
