which version of Atkins?

Hi,
I have been lurking for a while and am curious which version of Atkins works the best for folks. I would like to lose 25-30 pounds. I tend to like the LC lifestyle but want to decide which plan is best for me. I would appreciate any info or advice that you all may have.
Thanks a lot.....

can you control yourself? if not do 72 as it is the strictest version
if you can control yourself and only use frankenffods in an emergency then do 2002 DANDR as it has a very well explained program after the 14 days of induction are up.

If you want to do a fast/convenience food version of DANDR then the newer ANA version would be better.

That said i chose the 20002 DANDR and ignored chapter 18 induction sticking with chapter 11 induction.

Thanks for your advice. Just one question though. What is "frankenffods"? I have the 72 book but not the 2002 one. I think I'll check it out and just continue on with induction. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. Can you have an occasional dessert on atkins? (sugar free of course) I assume this site also has some recipes and meal ideas that can help me plan???
Thanks again.....

frankenfood is the low carb stuff with the mythical magical noncounting counting carbs. you will see something like 23 carbs in the nutrtion label but it will say on the package 2 net effective carbs or 2 impact carbs stay away from that stuff till you are well on your way and know how to correct craving attacks and how carbs effect you.

Ideally you want to kill that sweet tooth but there are lots of recipes for sweets you can try out many like clouds are addictive so be careful.

I have never heard of frankenfoods!! Anyhow, I have a lot to lose and I am trying to stay within 20 carbs per day-- induction-- for about 6 mos. I have done this once before and lost 100 lbs while staying on induction for that length of time.

Any way you go... you'll do great!

I lost around 30 in a month and a half by doing strict atkins (maybe not strict but the way atkins is suppose to truly be) you know...none of this net carb diabetic low carb ice cream, peanut butter, chocolate junk.

Just the chicken, steak, butter, eggs and loosely packed cups of salad. I swore off the diet soda and cystal light. No processed meats... because the diet is actually meant to be done that way (atleast in my interpretation) I cut down coffee drastically and coming from a pot-a-dayer from working in a firehouse and an ER let me tell you it was no walk in the park.

Too many companys jumped on the bandwagon to make a few bucks by introducing the net carbs or low carb versions of their foods. It was crap to begin with..now its just watered down crap.

You can do this...and if you think you can't...prove yourself wrong.

Thanks for the advice to all of you. I am in agreement that the net carb stuff is probably not in my best interest. I plan to do my 2 weeks of the original atkins and then move into slowing adding carbs. I think that will serve me best and help repair my sluggish metabolism some, I hope. Turning 40 has slowed everything down that's for sure....
Thanks again....

I just wanted to add that by staying away from the frankenfoods (love that term), your grocery shopping will be so much easier! I stick to the perimeter. I'm in. I'm out. With two kids that I usually have to take along, it makes it so much easier and faster, not to mention not having to wander down the cookie/junk aisles and stop them from whining.

Your body will adjust to a nice, clean diet.

Best of luck! Kris

Hi,
I did go with the 2002 plan and picked up a book and am getting through it as we speak. I am on day 3 of induction and down a pound so far. I know this is not going to be quick losing these 25-30 pounds, but I am hopeful that the ol metabolism will kick into gear in a few days....
Thanks for checking in to see how I am doing!!! I'll keep you posted....

I'm glad you made a choice that you can stick with. And congrats on your loss! My sister has about the same amount of weight to lose as you. So I truly understand that your 30 lbs can be just as challenging as my 100 lbs. It's not always easy to understand that, but I'm learning.

I also vote that you should avoid frankenfoods. I didn't eat them the first time around and I won't eat them this time around. I like to think of this as an all-natural, whole foods kind of eating. Also, I think that if I were to give in and eat those foods then I would never really know how to kick the sugar/junk/processed food cravings in the butt. And those are the foods that got me into this mess to begin with!

Keep us posted!

I am staying away from the yucky stuff, but I am really losing slowly. Wonder if that is cuz I am exercising a ton. Strength training and cardio 6 days a week for an hour (P90X). I just want the scale to move and not sure how to get it going......
If anyone has an ideas to jump start things, please let me know. I would appreciate it.....
See ya later....

woo hoo on those workout. forget the scale get out your measuring tape and see how much body fat you are burning off as you morph your body. I used dunk tanks to measure back in 03 and added 11 pounds of lean body mass while only dropping 4 pounds on the scales, and was grumbling about the scales not moving much during a 6 month period but my body fat % was moving in the right direction all the way to goal and if I'd realized it then i'd have been a Dec 03 goalie instead of an 04 goalie.

I agree, we are MUCH better off if we can stick to fresh, unprocessed foods. That's how I lose the best. It's a very plain and unadorned way to eat, but it's also the best. I know exactly what you mean about the coffee. My dad was a fireman, and he literally drank coffee all day long.

Terry, that was a great post. I am not buying any yucky stuff. I am even trying to stay away from anything sweet stuff low carb or not. That is a challenge for sure. I would love to make a chessecake!!!!
I am going to do some measuring today to see where I have come over the past 21 days.
How long do you all think I should stay on induction? Should I stay on longer than 2 weeks, since I am losing more slowly?
As always, thanks for your help and advice....
see ya soon....
