Net Carbs vs Regular Carbs?

Can someone explain the different. I would like to try stuff that says low carb only 3 net carbs! But I look at the back and notice it has like 16 per serving, but 13 suger alch or something. I know you subtract from each other. Is it for real though? I have been going good for a month on atkins and just dont want to make a mistake.

Be very careful when making the decision to include SA. This time around Im only subtracting fiber from my carb counts. In the past I indulged with SF candies convincing myself they only had 1 carb and it got me into trouble. I dont know the scientific explanation. I found out that for ME they caused cravings to return and stalling occured. Hopefully 2big can jump in and fully explain for us.

I call those net carbs mythicasl magical noncounting counting carbs. folk tend to focus on the "only 2 carbs" and over endulge forgetting about the cals in there too. When Dr Atkins wrote his plan there were no SAs on the market and the other hydrogenated starches didn't exist. if you wanted candy cake pie icecream you had to budget your carbs carefully and have a very small amount those the carbs controlled the toital cals in the endulgence too.

Fiber is the only carbohydrate proven scientifically not to be metabolized by the body so be very very careful should you decide to try any frankenfood.

Happy low carbing

you will do much better on your weight loss journey if you count them.

I find not eating Franken Foods make things soo much easier and no cravings ..I just Do Not go there and the weight is comming off . I found that drinking peppermint tea with sweetener helps me get over a sweet craving (but that is rare).

I can never go by net carbs..I end up out of ketosis each time. Oh well..atleast I now stay away from the "legal" treats..lol

My take:
1. Never subtract sugar alcohols unless it's Erythritol, which is special.
2. Always subtract fiber. It's good for you and it will not interfere with ketosis.

There are several kinds of sugar alcohol some are good, some are nearly as bad as sugar. In order to be safe, count half of the sugar alcohol grams as carbs. This means that if the product contains 13 grams of sugar alcohol, add 6.5 to your carb count.
