Can I eat Chicken Wings on atkins?
 
Does anyone know if you can eat chicken wings on atkins? As long as there is no breading and their plain I am sure there is 0 carbs. Just the meat and the chicken skin. Help would be appreciated.

Can they be fried or no? Whats the best way to have them. I dont want to mess it up so whats the best way to order them?

I always try and get them to give me the sauce on the side. That way I'm just dealing with mostly the baked wings and can make them as saucy/spicy as I want. You should be getting baked not fried in my experience, as they tend to flour stuff they fry.

I have them all the time but I make sure they are not breaded. I just buy the Tyson brands and look at the carb count, its usually only 1-2g per serving. If I make my own then I use Franks Red Hot for the sauce.

Fried is fine, just make sure they don't bread them first.

I eat chicken wings all of the time on Atkins, baked and fried. I always buy a big bag of uncooked wing sections from Sams Club and it lasts for a month!

For my fried wings, I season them with seasoned salt, pepper and garlic powder. Then I coat them in grated parmesan cheese, just like flour...and fry them. I can't tell the difference and neither can my boyfriend. DELICIOUS!! :up:

For my baked wings, I do the same thing except I spray the baking pan with canola oil, and after placing my seasoned and parmesan coated wings on the pan, I spray the wings so the seasonings and everything stays on. And I bake them at 475 degrees for 30 min when I just make 10 sections. These are awesome, and taste like oven fried chicken. I love it! :D

These are very induction friendly. I ate these and a salad with grated cheese and hidden valley ranch for lunch and dinner everyday just because I loved it so much. I lost about 5lb a week doing this!

Hooter's Chicken Wings
 
I was stunned when I looked up the nutritional info on Hooter's wings. It came out to a staggering 25 grams for 5 wings. I can eat 20 wings in a heartbeat! Now, this did not make sense to me, as I also buy Hooter's Wing Sauce, and it shows no carbs. I don;t always have time to cook, and take out is a big part of my life as i work 12 to 16 hours a day.
Anyone know anything about this? How could they be that high in carbs??

I had learned this too....I do believe they are rolled in a seasoned flour prior to deep frying.

I have been sleuthing a bit trying to find the actual INGREDIENTS used in Hooter's wings, without success - however, I DO see a lot of folks order them "naked" which means NO BREADING - so I'd sure try THAT if there was a Hooter's near me!

Thanks so much for the info. I do know that the sauce says zero carbs, so maybe I just have to make my own wings. I see a few good ideas here on cooking them, It would never occur to me to cook them in the oven, I am happy to learn that it can be done. I buy my hooter's sauce on line, and usually add it to "take out wings" because I like them smokin' hot. I just have to try to carve out some time to actually cook more, do less take out.:stars:

Hell yes!

I never make them at home though, since they're one of the few induction-friendly foods I can get when I go out to a sports bar to catch a game with my friends.

Plus, I'm often in Western NY with family and friends, and the wing sauce they have there is both low carb and amazing.

Bleu cheese and celery are even acceptable, so long as you don't go crazy.

Is the parmesan cheese you use the Kraft in the green can?

I love making wings. I also bake them in the oven and spray them with Pam first. If I'm at Old Chicago or Outback, if you order Naked wings, they will 86 the breading ( not bread them)! :) Then you just have to make sure your hot sauce is like a Frank's Red Hot or anyone that doesn't have sugar/carbs.

As long as it's just plain chicken, baked or fried, with NOTHING added to it... it's 0 grams carb.

I count 1g per wing, as some seasonings have trace amounts, and I figure I'm giving myself a cushion. I try to add in a cushion when I'm eating out, just to be safe.


I also buy Tyson's hot wings from the supermarket or Smart & Final/Cash & Carry or Costco. They're called Wings of Fire in the supermarket, and Buffalo-style wings in the wholesale places. They are great baked in the oven until crispy, and about the same carb count. I have them fairly often, with Marie's blue cheese dressing. :yummy:
