How often to weigh in?

Have been weighing in daily, but am thinking it might not be the best. What is the consensus out there? Thanks!

Hi,
Personally, I was always weighing myself everyday, but I found that the scales are not always accurate because of water retention or what ever else. I was always told to weight once a week, but I find that hard to do, hehee!
The thing with me weighing everyday is I would upset if I saw a pound I lost, come back again, just to show I lost it the next day. You know what I mean?
So, I weaning myself from everyday, to doing once a week.
That's just me.
Diana

if you are a scalenumberphobic and will allow the number on your scale to effect the value you place on your hard work working your plan then stay off the scales and pick a large number of days elasped between weighins.

Know your weight will fluctuate because of other factors like sodium consumption, hormones, changes in exercise patterns, load in your intestines, and fluid levels just to man a few. If you can't be well with those factors effecting the speed of the number changes then avoid the scales.

If however that number doesn't effect you emotionally the rest of the day then jump on it as often as you like. Me I loved seeing how different things effected the number ( bathroom breaks can have amazing changes in those numbers) and jumped on mine many times a day. Other folk litterally throw in the towel if they have gained an ounce today from yesterday and need to avoid scale numbers like the plague. We can make frinds with our tape measure to trap the shedding of the fat too if the metal monster number effects you.

Happy low carbing.

Thanks you guys. I think I will try to weigh in weekly, the daily weigh in and the fluctuation that can and will happen will just make me crazy.

The problem with weighing once per week is that you might weigh yourself on your "heaviest " day that week and become discouraged.

I recommend that you get a scale that shows decimals (ounces) and weigh every day. Then at the end of the week, average the weights. Even though your weight goes up and down, you will probably see a drop from week to week, even if only one tenth of a pound. Without the averages, you would probably not be able to see a drop.

I weigh every day and have maintained my ideal weight for three years.

i agree, best thing to do is weigh yourself the same day and roughly the same time each week. that way you get the most accurate reading. no matter how tempting it is to jump on and see what it reads.....DONT!! :-)

I have a tendency to get scale obsessed to the point it set my mood for the day. When I was losing weight, I checked my weight every 3 days. It actually kept my eating "in line" because I had to wait to see the results...and I always wanted it to be good. YMMV.

At maintenance, I check my weight maybe once a month. I learned so much about my body...I can actually "feel" when I gain...even as little as a 1/2 lb.

I agree with Steady.. learn your body, learn the things that bloat you such as monthly visitors and salt intake.
I don't weigh myself hardly. Maybe once every three weeks, to monitor the progress but I don't think about the scale.. ITs the picture reflected in the mirrror that matters. The day I look in it and don't see my double chin, then I will know where I am. Also I use clothing as a monitor. I bought these pants and i try them on every week, to se if they fit me. They still don't but it doesn't matter, I will keep trying them until one day they will... that is more important than the number in the scale.

It depends quite a bit on your personality type. When I weighed myself daily I obsessed about every minor fluctuation and got discouraged very easily. So now I don't even own a scale at home. Threw the darn thing out. Best thing I could have done.

I get weighed monthly at my doctor's office and today it showed a seven pound loss over last month. Not a huge drop but he was extremely supportive and gave me a nice pat on the back for my effort. That really helps. I just concentrate on eating healthy and look forward to seeing a little progress every month.

I weigh daily, but I only record the weight once per week. Every Tuesday is my official weigh day, I just like to see how food effects me daily.

I weigh throughout the week, but only keep a record of my weigh-in on Friday mornings. The rest of the week, there's so much fluctuation, that I don't trust the readings.

Well for a while I got obsessed with the scale and weighed myself everyday.... omg it made me sooo depressed! For me personally, weighing in once a week is the best bet. And I always weigh in the morning (after I pee, hehe!). When do you guys think is the best time of the day to check ketosis?

I agree, I learned this years ago on CAD and it helps you keeps the ups and downs in perspective. If you enter your weight into Fitday, over time you see your chart go gradually down.
