Getting Fibre

This is a wonderful way to get your fibre and have breakfast at the same time!
I just ate one with some cheese about an hour age. It fills you up and I find this muffin to be delicious. Ground flax seed is almost total fibre and has those omegas that are so important. The muffin is induction friendly. After induction, I'll use some low carb jam as well.

Individual Muffin
1 Carb
Lots of Fibre

1. In a small ramekin or microwaveable container that holds about one cup, melt I-2 tablespoons of butter.
2. In a separate bowl, beat 1 egg, add ¼ cup ground flax seed, splenda to taste, ¼ tsp each baking powder and cinnamon. Mix well.
3. Add to ramekin and mix with butter
4. Microwave on high for one minute. Turn out of ramekin and allow to cool.

How long do you have to cool it for? I'm wondering how long the whole process will take, because it sounds like a great breakfast alternative, but I am usually running around in the morning tryin to get to work early..

Thanks!!

This is the recipe for the OneMinuteMuffin. It's carb count is higher than one. Splenda 1, egg .61, baking powder should be 1/2 tsp at .637 carbs, if you use the cinnamon .25-so this total would be 2.497 without the flax carbs-there is a debate on the boards whether to count the carbs for flax. Here's a link for carb counts for spices Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Spice Chart. Also this is technically not allowed for Induction as Dr. A only recommends 2 tbls of flax a day added to foods for help with constipation-it's a very YMMV thing. There are several threads for the flax muffin. Go here for good info about flax Flax Seed: The Low Carb Whole Grain - Flax Seed Information and Recipes

rule 12 says one tablespoon or more so the amount you need for regualrity is an individual issue, but actually you could easly cut down on the amount of flax in there to just 2T.
1/4 cup will move you well if you are not used to flax seed meal. you can also use garlic or onion powder ( count the carbs) and make a bread for your lunch with this recipe.

happy low carbing

Cooling muffin

The muffin takes very little time to cool. You can also make a few ahead and refrigerate them. I'm afraid I'm not a meticulous counter of carbs. I do eat eggs and most spices as I like. But I am very careful to follow the plan in general. I have eaten this muffin for four days out of five on induction and have lost 5 lbs. (second time around). I feel very contented each morning because I know I can have my muffin with cheese and coffee. It just starts my day in a very positive way and so I shared the recipe in case others such as myself have not previously discovered this muffin.

Dear Wanttobeskinny:

I apologize, we got sidetracked with the muffin recipe. I also just started taking the same ph pills and took only two with no effect (no bowel movement). Last night I took 5 as the instructions say (actually they tell you to take up to 15 pills but who wants to take all that fiber?) They worked but they kicked me right out of ketosis according to my keto stick test... For me its a question of whether the fiber works against ketosis or not.. because I am just not going to the bathroom on Induction, and I don't think its healthy.. we should be regular hence the fiber, but the keto stick makes me think that is sabotaging my diet.. Help anyone??

Fibre is a form of carbohydrate, the fibre cannot be greater than the total amt of carbohydrates. so if your muffin has 1 gm carbohydrate the fibre cannot be greater than 1 gm. The current push is to get 20 to 25 gm of fibre daily.

One simple way to "get going" is to take a 500mg tab of Magnesium. ("Milk of Magnesia", an OTC laxative is magnesium). Trust me it won't take but a few hours to "be moved".

the US RDA for magnesium is somewhere around 300 mg. so 500 is alot. I wouldn't take it every day. I'd take it as often as I would use a laxative which might be once every couple years for me. Of course other people may have this problem more often. I'm sure I don't have to point out the problems with abusing laxatives or anything that can have a laxative effect.

I've chosen to eat Kellogs All-Bran, with extra fibre about 2 to 3 times per week. I only eat 1/3 cup with 1/3 cup Hoods milk. that comes out 16 grams of carbs but 10 of those are fibre.

AFter doing induction this little bit of cereal tastes like a real treat.
