Any TASTY Shirataki Noodle Recipes??

So, I've searched high and low after hearing all about these wonderful shirataki noodles and FINALLY found a place around here that carries them. I prepared them according to the directions and dressed the noodles the way I normally would. They weren't terrible... but far from what I expected from all the hype.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make these "Miracle Noodles" tasty and LC friendly? Thanks!

I totally love Shiritaki! I often have stir-fry for dinner, there are so many variations. Then I just top a bunch of the noodles with the stir-fry. They are so low calorie and Carb, it seems like a perfect way to round out a meal.

Shirataki Noodles....

The only way that I like them is in my mom (she's japanese) Sukiyaki recipe. You can find a recipe on the net......it's basically a stir-fry. My mom just slices beef tip roast very fine (freeze it alittle and slicing is easier) then she adds chopped celery, nappa cabbage, onions, fr. spinach, broccoli. Quick fry the veggies and meat then add soy sauce, mirin, sake and alittle sugar (sweetner) then add rinsed Shiratake noodles at the end. They will soak up the soy sauce and it tastes out of this world. Sorry I don't have exact measurements but my mom doesn't cook that way. Any good Japanese cookbook will have a recipe. I think some grocery stores sell the sukiyaki sauce in a bottle. Hope this helps. CherL

what I do is similar to what cherlmeri said. I don't particularly like them with 'italian' style dishes, but in a stir-fry/sukiyaki type dish they are amazing. I got the noodles after reading the hype too and I was not impressed with my first try- a spaghetti thing. Also, they are really really good when you use sesame oil to fry everything in.

That sounds really good! When I first tried them, I admit it was a spaghetti dish... didn't taste so great. I'll have to try it in a stir fry, it sounds easy and yummy. Thanks!

I rinse them well and found soaking them in some cream with some cold water awhile works wonders. I cut them them up too with kitchen shears. Stir fry some veggies and the sauce I use (from my friend Anne) is

1 TBS Peanut butter
1 TBS splenda
1 TBS s/f rice vinegar
1 TBS soy sauce

It tastes just like Chinese take out to me.

I agree that these should be reserved for Asian dishes. I just made Linda Sue's Thai Beef Skillet and put it over the shirataki noodles and it's fantastic!! I highly recommend this recipe.

I have tried a bunch of recipes and I just can't like them. It's the texture I can't deal with, not the taste. I'd give just about anything to like these, but I can't get used to the texture. Yuck!

They take on a much better texture the next day. Now I make the stirfry or whatever, mix with the noodles and pop it in the fridge till the next day. They plump up and loosen up and feel more like real noodles.

Made these last night as a side dish to our steaks.

Rinsed them really well. Dried them out in a dry skillet on medium heat. Then I added a jar of Alfredo Ragu, sm. can of mushrooms and a bag of steam-in-the-bag chopped broccolli (i pre-cooked first in micro). Sprinkled crushed red pepper (we like hot dishes) and let it simmer while the steaks were on the grill.

I liked it a lot and so did my fiance. I cooked 2 packages of the noodles as I don't like just using "part" of a jar of alfredo sauce. It would probably end up not getting used, then tossed if I only used part of it and put the rest in the fridge. This way it'll get eaten.

Next time I'll have to try LindaSue's Thai beef recipe.

Shirataki Noodles Note:

I'm really excited about these.

The trick is to let them pan fry a bit. It give's them a nice texture, more firm.

Just put some butter in a pan and grille noodles for several minutes on both sides. add some soy sauce and they are great!

I just came up with this one. It involves wrestling a package of powdered cheese (my fav is Annie's Organic White Cheddar) which I calculated to be 120 calories and 6 carbs and tossing that with your noodles. Low cal/LC mac and cheese!!

You might want to try a different brand called Pasta Slim. I purchased them at Whole Foods (right next to the Shiritaki noodles). They are the best thing I have found in a long time! Only 20 cal per serving and 2 carbs(mostly fiber). They don't have that weird fishy smell and no need to par boil them like the others.

I've tried a million times to like them and every time I'm disappointed. BUT last night I bought another bag and boiled them then placed them in the fridge to marinate in beef broth and soy sauce. I tried them this morning and the taste was REALLY good. I'm saving them to throw into a veggie stir fry later so I'll report back with the results. ;-)

i used to love the tofu ones from whole foods until i faced the fact they are made with soy.

So I ordered a box of traditional ones online.

I've tried them twice and do love them.
Only I wake up the next morning after eating them totally nausous! Like I really feel like I'm going to barf. so weird! I par boil and everything not sure whats up but scared to eat them.

Shirataki noodles should be rinsed thoroughly. I drain the package then dump them into a strainer then into a pot with lots of cold water. Twice.

They should be partially dried so they will soak up the coating. Today I will try a coat of soy sauce - I have some super Japanese soy, I think from Whole Paycheck - and whatever else sounds good. Will report on that experiment later - if I live through my cooking.

Drying those slippery little suckers is slow going in air so... Last night I decided to experiment. First I put the noodles into a salad spinner to get rid of most of the rinse water. Then I put them on an oiled plate and into a microwave set to 2 heat level for 9 minutes. That dried the noodles pretty well. So far so good! The experiments proceed.

Here is a site that shows 101 recipes. Im addicted to these, had a HUGE bowl of them (entire 8 oz. package) heated in a pan with a tiny drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, I added 2 oz. of shredded cheddar cheese, garlic salt and Italian seasonings. Yummy, Cheesy goodness for 200 calories. Plus I just read that all the soluble fiber is good for lowering cholesterol!

I am hoping to find these....I am going to check out some of the asian specialty stores here (my only chance of finding these in DK). I can't wait to try them in a stir fry!! I am getting tired of no noodles and rice....so I am looking forward to these!
