Best thing I've ever eaten on low carb

Just past my 6 week point on '72 plus some veggies, and doing great. I decided to add some yogurt and a few berries.

I added a 1/4 cup of frozen organic blueberries and a few drops of liquid Splenda to a carton of Fage greek yogurt (not quite Yocheese but with some of the whey drained off). I put the berries in frozen and let them superchill the yogurt while they thawed.

That was the THE best thing I have ever eaten in my life! Better than the most luscious bowl of ice cream EVER. I don't even like yogurt that much, it sorta grosses me out.

This WOE rocks.

I agree. I've added blueberries and sweetner to greek yogurt and there is not much better than that!

I'm with ya! Yogurt, generally speaking, grosses me out too UNLESS it's Greek yogurt. The consistency is more like sour cream, not that slippery -ugh, shudder- nasty stuff! Ewww!

I've grown to love it with a few walnut pieces and some SF honey and a few drops of Stevia cinnamon-flavored liquid - boy it's good for dessert!

I also like to nuke some frozen blueberries with a packet of Stevia Plus, til they JUST get shiny and a little soft, then stir some Greek yogurt into THAT.

Greek yogurt also makes dandy homemade onion dip!

I'm gonna try your frozen blueberries tip too, that really would be great on a warm day like this.

Hi all -- this is my version of this yummy thing that i have been been doing for quite a while now. I mix greek yoghurt and heavy cream in the same quantities then add some splenda , blueberries and either flakes almonds or chopped maccadamia nuts .. pure bliss

Also wonderful with a few big spoonfuls of ultra-healthy cinnamon.

My problem this summer will be limiting quantities of this yummy stuff.

It absolutely is missing the "slime factor" of some yogurts!

Yogurt-hater here.

I was persuaded to try the Greek stuff though, which was different - less yogurty, more palatable and way thicker than traditional brands. Found it at Trader Joe's.

It has 6 sugar grams per serving. Not too bad but a little too high for a dessert for me.

Whole Foods and Trader Joes are the 2 places I know of, but you can e-mail Fage and give them your zip, and they will tell you the closest store.

The little yoggies have already eaten some of the sugars. The "yogurt exception" has some pretty good science behind it.

You can always make your own greek yogurt! My DH does this. I found this from an internet site with good directions.

Here's How:
Line a medium-large bowl with a piece of cheesecloth or a clean white dish towel.
Dump a container of plain (unflavored), yogurt into the center of the cloth.
Bring the four corners of the cloth together and lift the yogurt.
Over the bowl or sink, twist the corners to squeeze out the liquid (it will drain through the cloth).
Continue squeezing, putting the yogurt under pressure, to force the liquid out.
When the majority of the surface liquid has been drained, it will start to drip more slowly. Tie off the top of the cloth just above the mass of yogurt with string.
Place the cloth containing the yogurt in a strainer or colander, and place the strainer or colander in a bowl where it doesn't touch the bottom (so that the liquid can continue to drain).
Place the bowl containing the strainer/colander in the refrigerator and allow to drain for 2-3 hours.
After draining, take the cloth containing the yogurt and put it in the sink (do not remove the string).
Place the palms of your hands on the bag and press down to force out any remaining liquid.
Remove the string, open the cloth, and using a spatula, put the yogurt in a bowl for use.
Tips:
Straining will reduce the volume of yougurt by half, perhaps more, so plan accordingly. One quart of low-fat yogurt (4 cups) will yield 2 cups or slightly less of strained yogurt.
Using fat-free yogurt will reduce the quantity a little more, and it will not be quite as thick as using full-fat or low-fat yogurt, but it is a reasonable option for low fat diets.
For vegans: Buy or make soy yogurt and strain as above.
What You Need:
medium-large mixing bowl
cheesecloth or clean white dishtowel
commercial or homemade full-fat, low-fat, or fat-free yogurt, plain unflavored
string
strainer or colander

Lining a colander with coffee filters works well if you don't have cheese cloth handy. With the filters it takes longer- you can't use the squeezing method, just natural draining. I let it drain in the fridge about 6-8 hours (usually overnight).

i know this is kind of late in the thread, but at what point in Atkins could you add the greek yogurt. I'm sure not induction, but is that something you could do in OWL as long as you stay under your carb count? Thanks.

That is absolutely my favorite meal in the world. I've told my husband that if anything ever happened to me that I couldn't feed myself, please make it greek yogurt (Fage) and frozen blueberries. love, love, love it.

I mix unsweetened cocoa powder and blue berries or strawberries into my greek yogurt. Also my kids like sugarfree pancake syrup mixed in to the plain greek yogurt to dip fruit into.

I was so excited to find Fage this week at Publix--I think that is a brand name of Greek yogurt? Anyway, I have heard it talked about a lot on this site and was so thrilled to buy it. Now that I know what you all put in it I am ready to try it tomorrow. I love Dannon Plain yogurt so I have a feeling I will enjoy this too! I put strawberries and blueberries, AS, coconut flour and pecans in my yogurt so I will be putting a similar combo in my Fage. Thanks for this thread!

I eat yogurt and strawberries nearly every day. It is so divine! I just drain mine in a colander with paper towels overnight and it gets really thick.

No, it isn't a good food for induction. Part of the problem is portion control.

Sometimes I also drain regular yogurt through a strainer. You just need a paper towel and a strainer or collander. Gravity takes care of the rest. When you see the stuff that comes out, you'll be pleased that many of the carbs are in the liquid. "Cause you won't want to drink it...it looks YUK!

I keep a bag of frozen mixed berries (after I am off induction!) in the freezer and use them in yogert for breakfast and they are also great with Whey protein, yogert and a splash of vanilla Divinci for a snack or light lunch.. yum...

I love adding a small amount of flax seed meal to yogurt as well. It adds a little texture and fiber, which is never a bad thing.
