maybe my last question was to lengthy

Im dying of rsome respponses so I am just going to ask the most important one now in hopes someone can answer. Is there anyone who is following atkins who still has a couple cups of caffeinated coffee in the am and still losing? Love to hear some responses. I really love my coffee and am feeling very deprived and frustrated without it.

I never gave up the coffee....

Drink 2 cups every morning with 1 tbsp cream or H/H and DaVinci's SF syrup flavor.....

It never affected my weight loss, but that may not work for everyone.....

I've never even tried to give up coffee. I still lose fine as long as I'm doing everything else correctly.

I have one cup a day with two tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and two splenda's, I feel I've given up everything else and I'll be darned if I'm going to give up my one cup of coffee. Now I make sure I count all of it in my carb total for that day, the way I drink it it equal to 3 carbs, hence why I only have one cup...but I've lost 9lbs in two weeks of induction, so for me the coffee isn't killing me. Others may be different, some people the caffeine stalls them, each person is different, you have to see what works for you! Good luck to you!

Oh, yeah. I'm cutting back because I also love my cream and I might stall because of the several tablespoons I put in my mug. I'm down to 2 cups of coffee - *extremely* strong w/ 1/2 the cream I'd normally put in it. I find I can actually taste the coffee now. LOL. If coffee stalled me, I'd just get used to being fat the rest of my life. I'll give up ice cream, bread, even cream cheese - but step away from my coffee!!!
BTW - I've heard that the darker the roast, the lower the caffeine amount.

I cut out coffee because I like it with too much cream. Once I am closer to maintenance I might be a tad more relaxed about it. I'll have to see how it affects me as I add it back.

Cream Alternative

I love my coffee too, but I don't like cream in it. I use soymilk that has one carb per cup (westsoy unsweetened) or sometimes their chocolate or cappuccino flavored soy milk that is also 1 carb per cup. I've always been a milk in coffee person, and I don't mind the taste of soymilk.

you've got to read labels, though. most soymilk has carbs equivalent to milk. westsoy is the only kind I've found this low.

I drink one to two shots of espresso each day and find that it hasn't stalled me. I mix it with one cup UNSWETENED Almond milk (Almond Breeze serving size 8oz is 40 cal, 3gr fat, 2 carbs, 1 fiber), 1 TBSP 1/2 -n- 1/2, and SF Davinci's......I like mine cold but it's yummy hot too! There's also unsweetened vanilla and chocolate too but it's not sold yet where I live so I haven't had the chance to try it. Good Luck!

I have a mug of coffee in the morning, and another in the afternoon. It's never been a problem for me. I went decaffinated for a while, but got tired of making seperate pots since DH won't drink decaf. I didn't notice a difference at all once I switched back, though it may be different for others.

I like regular coffee more than decaf and never had an issue with it. In fact if anything I feel like I am more satisfied when I use it as a treat and have lots of energy for workouts. I dont drink it daily but when I do its no problem for me at all.

I don't think Dr. Atkins ever implied to give up coffee. I just think he implied to drink decaf - so I never understand why people think they have to give it up. I drank coffee throughout my entire weight loss - caffeine and all.

I gave up the caffeine - per Atkins' suggestion - and have never regretted it. Just another addiction I didn't need, and it was harder to kick than sugar, which I never expected. I lose better without it too. I don't undertand why more people won't give decaf a try if they need the 'coffee experience', y'know?

Rule #10 of Induction in DANDR (2002):

Avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks that contain caffeine. Excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar.

He's certainly talking about "caffeine".

I am one. I drink about 2 cups with cream and sugar free Davinci or Torani syrups. I am heading to our local United Grocers today to pick up some more Davinci's. I can get a large bottle for $3.66--gonna stock up a little.

If it doesn't make a person crave sugar, then I would assume it is ok. It doesn't make me crave it, so I have a few cups.

I use my coffee as a treat too. I have been drinking it since day one of induction, and I am in my 7th day today. I am down 5.6 lbs in six days, so I would say it is ok with me. I do have to admit that the 2 cups I do drink are a far cry from what I had been drinking before induction. I was drinking about 5 or 6 cups a day. To me, it is an improvement, and I do use it as a nice treat. I loooove coffee.
