mini plateau

Well, I'd been stuck bouncing between 185.4 and 185.0 from Sunday until Thursday. (Monday was my last day of induction.) Yesterday morning, I'd again weighed in at 185.4, but this morning it was 184.8.

Wow, I don't know that I would have been able to deal with a 2 month stall! Good job!

It feels fantastic!

Sure you would...b/c you want to succeed and stalls are just part of the process...and my stall was b/c I wasn't exercising like I should have been, otherwise it might have been shorter.

Yes, but my method of dealing with it would have been to do the fat fast after only 2 weeks. I'm not the most patient of people.

yeah, I get that, I am not very patient either, but I have failed too many times b/c I get so far, stall, get super restrictive, give up...that was my pattern for years. This time, I did not give up and that is how I know that I will succeed. I finally know that I am ready...and you have to be ready, otherwise it won't work

That happened to me with low fat. I got down to 165 and stalled, went extreme (5 grams of fat per day and 7 days a week at the gym for 2 hours per day), but I still stalled for 4 months, then gave up.

I did very well with Atkins the first time and kept the weight off for 3 years. I ended up allowing myself to cheat on a cruise and that kicked in the carb cravings and I just went nuts when I got home. I gained back just short of half of what I'd lost before I asked myself what the hell I was doing.

I have a plan for when I get closer to maintenance...I am switching to BFFM. I LOVE that plan (just don't have the patience right now for the work it takes ) I really look forward to going back to that method as soon as I get some of this fat off relatively quickly. Have you made any plans for when you get to that point? We both have around 30 pounds to lose to get to our personal goal, so I think it is good to think about how to maintain for life.

And I hope you are proud of yourself for getting abck on track before gaining all of it back!!!

I've heard of BRRM, but can't find much information on it. All of what I've found is marketing information and nothing substantive. Could you explain it a little for me?

Well, I'm going to be more anal about getting my exact number of carbs that I can eat daily without gaining or losing. Before, when I was on maintenance, I just estimated. So, I really didn't know how much damage one small order of fries was doing to me. For all I know that small fries was my daily carb limit or even over it! Not that I plan to eat fries, but it applies to other things as well. I also started going crazy with the low carb products (pasta, muffins, bagels, etc...).

When I was losing weight last time I had a strict rule of no more then 2 servings of low carb products per week and it worked well for me. During maintenance I could probably up it to 4 or 5, but I need an exact carb limit to be sure.

I'm disappointed for letting it get that far. Other times I'd strictly followed Dr. Atkins 5 lb rule. If you gain 5 lbs, go back on induction. It worked beautifully. I am, at the same time, proud that I didn't gain it all back and more. I've seen WAY more people on these boards who did gain it all back and more before starting over, then I've seen people who only gained half of it back.

For more info on BFFM, go here... Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle [BFFM] by Tom Venuto

also, check out any other BFFM postings in the Muscle Matters section. I bought the book online (it is a PDF document and you can print it out) it tells you everything you need to know and is a great resource. you eat A LOT! It took me several weeks before i was able to to eat all that it said, but once I did I was never hungry. It was difficult at times b/c you have to eat so often and really plan a lot. I had to quit b/c I just didn't have time to plan so much, but I know that I will be able to get back to it when I am no longer a student whose schedule is changing all of the time...(graduating w/ my B.Ed. in April )
