Big differences in Low carb Products between the US and Canada

are there any other canadians here who make the trip to the border to check out the low carb stuff like i do?

i cant beleive how much more stuff is available there than here (canada)

after starting back to a controlled low carb diet, i went looking for some stuff to add variety, i couldnt find much

i did however find some 4-5g chocolate bars at Zehrs(loblaws) for $0.74 each. and at the same store they had a low carb PC Ketchup which isnt too bad, since we dont get the Heinz low carb ketchup here

the only other thing i found was the regular Sorbee candies and bars that are really expensive

there isnt even any sign of Dreamfields pasta (not sold in canada anymore)

everything i found though had Maltitol in it, could not find anything with erythriitol (am wondering if its approved here even)

now this search only took place in regular food stores and not health food stores, as i didnt rob a bank before i went

if anyone in canada can add anything and where to get it please do

yep me too! i live right on the border though so i go to the states for a lot of shopping in general. i ALWAYS stock up on cheese there because it is WAAAY cheaper than ours is. we also get the sf jello in the serving sized cups (cant get that here), the low carb milk & choc milk, awesome flavoured pork rinds, tyson chicken wings, low carb yogurt....there are a ton of things we buy there but a lot of what we do buy is stuff i could just buy at zehrs or where ever just it's cheaper....

just out of curiosity where in Ontario are you? i'm in Windsor and i head over to Detroit (well the suburbs i should say...i do NOT venture into detroit lol) almost weekly sometimes. i go to meijer's, target & walmart.

im just south of Barrie,

so im about 1.5-2 hrs from the border, we try to go a couple of times a year, make a day or day/nite out of it

so i geuss next time i go down, im gonna have to stay cause ive got to get a lot of stuff

when you say the cheese is cheaper, what are we talking, like for one of those big bars? my wife always gets it at no frills, food basics, sobeys for $4.99 for the big 500g bar

someone told me to check out the Erie area instead of buffalo , but im pretty familiar with the buffalo area, so we tend to go there

Oh the cheese is cheaper then your wildest dreams LOL! i'm sure you've noticed here the shredded cheese is about a MINIMUM of $5 a bag right? i have gotten FOUR bags for that price. this week when i was at Meijer they had the bars of cheese 3 for $5! their eggs & milk are waaay cheaper too amoung a billion other things....us Canadians get ripped off

dh and i lived in Toronto till last march when we moved down here to Windsor, and we had gone to Buffalo a few times before, but i REALLY find the prices in the Detroit area a lot better....maybe cause Michigan has a bad economy? i have no clue really but i have noticed HUGE savings when i shop there. we always fill up the gas tank while we're there too...when we left here on tuesday morning our gas was $.88 a litre....there's was $1.86 a gallon which works out to be about $.50 a litre

I live in montreal and very rarely eat anything process, therefore rarely eat LC products, but I noticed when I was at GNC getting vitamins that they have a lot of Atkin's Nutritionals products and other LC items. You could try there, or order from netrition, I love them

you are welcome! and if you start going there often, become a card member so you can get deals! It will save you a lot of money...something like 20% the first 7 days of every month

I live about 20 mins from the Pacific border crossing and go down about every 2 months.

Things I buy there that I can get here but are way cheaper:

eggs (about $0.90 per dozen)
butter (about $1.75 per pound)
milk ($2.00 or less) per gallon - for the rest of the family
cream ($1.75 for 2 litres)
cheese ($11.00 for 5-pound block of cheddar)
cream cheese ($3.00 for 3-pound block)

DaVinci sugar-free syrup (sweetened with splenda) that I use daily in my coffee is $12-15 here for a 750ml bottle -- I get it down there for $3.70 per bottle!

Meats can be a lot cheaper down there, too. I bought chicken breasts (boneless, skinless) for $1.49 per pound!

I don't buy low-carb products anymore because I got myself into too much trouble with them but if I look around out of curiosity, I don't see nearly as much LC stuff as I used to.

Oh, yeah - used to buy the Carb Options line, looooove the BBQ sauce.
