starting Atkins for the first time
I have come to Atkins. I have a book and am working through it. I am going shopping later tonight (maybe) but definately tomorrow. I am ready to do this!
A little about me: I am almost 39. I am originally from Baltimore MD. I lived in KS for 5 years. I now live in Southern CA with my wonderful husband of 3 years. We have a beautiful yellow lab named Brooklyn. No children yet. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1998 by way of my own research. The docs in KS that I found were not very good. Fianlly, the last 6 months I was living there, I was diagnosed correctly but there was no plan of action accept BCPs until I wanted to ttc. Things changed once I moved to CA. I was rediagnosed with PCOS and with insulin resistance. I was put on Actos and told the best solution was weight loss and exercise. I was told not to do Atkins because of the high fat content. (no offense to the faithful Atkins people) I tried just eating better, but to no avail. Then, DH and I decided on South Beach. I made it through almost 2 weeks. I felt great, had energy, and was losing weight! When DH stated it was too restrictive and stopped, I had a hard time continuing. Everything came to a hault, including my exercise routines, which included Curves. For the next couple of years, nothing was really done. Lose weight. Gain. Read more books. Buy books. Products. Frustration. Anger. Start again. Stop. Repeat process. Finally, when we moved to Burbank, I felt I finally had the strength to do what is right for my health. A different doctor with ideas of natural treatments and lifestyle changes. But, the same thing happened----start, stop, repeat. *sigh* What was wrong with me?? Now, boughts of saddness with a few marital problems were thrown in on top of everything else. Another move, this time to Playa del Rey, has proven to be the blessing I needed. My doctor from Burbank is still my doctor. He wants me to follow a low GI diet. He suggested the new Atkins as one of the lifestyle changes to make. I bought the book after thought and prayer. It sat on my shelf until today. God has made many changes in my life. He works on me daily. If I ever left things alone, all would be well in a very short time. The Lord is the only answer to my health issues. The only answer to "How do I get through?" Without Him, I could not make it through. I would LOVE to have a person in Playa or a surrounding area that has 100+ pounds to lose as I do. I never want to add to someones plight, but understanding PCOS and/or insulin resistance would be a wonderful added bonus. If God sees the need, I know He will provide. Guess that is all for now. Hope to get to know all of you a bit better too ![]() |

sounds like you have had quite the ordeal with the medical problems. You said you're looking to lose 100+ pds and would like to meet others who are in the same position. Check out the century club here, and the century club lounge. There are a lot of nice people there. There is also the christian gang on one of these threads. I don't know if you are chritian, but that's a nice group of people too. I wish you well on your journey to a thinner you. |

Welcome! I am new also - I am on day 4 of induction.
Whereabout in KS were you at? I live just south of Olathe. Good luck in your new WOL (way of life). I found the first couple of days to be fairly easy...with the aid of Advil (for the headaches from sugar withdraw). I found reading the success stories here really helpful...as well as seeing people on the board who have been successful. |

I was in Hays. Loved being there. Circumstances made me leave. Thanks! You are right. The successes, especially some, make me feel I can do anything. Also, some make me feel kinda week. Whining about this and that when some have had much bigger hurdles and have been very successful. But, they also give me hope ![]() |
