Less Weight To Lose, Longer Time It Takes to Lose?
Just a question for people out there who have had 20 or less pounds to lose.
Do you find it takes you a longer time to do that? I currently weigh 138 LBS and want to get to 120 LBS by about March or April if it is at all possible. I found the first time I was on Atkins, I was a really slow loser and I went from about 165 LBS to 125 LBS in 2.5 years. It took me 2.5 years to loose 40 LBS. I find that when I get below 130 LBS my body just fights and fights to lose anything. Is there anyone out there on Atkins that can tell me of your experience with losing smaller amounts of weight? Last time I was on Atkins and I stalled at 130 LBS, I had to restrict my caloric intake to 1200 Calories a day and about 1500 on workout days. That was back when I could to cardio etc at a Gym. I am unable to work out at a Gym this time around due to financial circumstances. But I am going to check out T-Tapp and Callanetics and see if I can get used videos. If anyone here can let me know what your experience has been with losing smaller amounts of weight and what worked best to lose the fastest, I would really appreciate it. GG

Yes,
For me I really have to watch my calories as well as my carbs. I do think that the closer you get to your goal wt. the harder it is to eat alot of calories. I will maintain on 1500 cals and I am 5'10 tall. I would suggest eating only when you are truely hungry and eat less. This is my own personal opinion and experience. Everyone is different. I have read that others will stall if they lower their calories too drastic. It is such a fine line with what will work for your body. I sure hope this helps. Good luck and I really hope you find your way! ![]() |

Thanks for the response. I finished my first week of induction today and lost 3.5 lbs. I was only trying for 2 lbs. so this was a great start. I have been eating 5-6 small meals a day this time and find that I have a hard time getting in the 1800 I was going to start with. Most days I was at 1500 or less. What I had wanted to do was to go from 1800 down 50 Cals each week till I hit 1300 and stay there till I hit my goal weight and then play with the calories to see what I could take in to maintain. I feel alright and I worked out 3 days this week, so all seems to be going OK. I am setting a goal of 1 lb a week so that I don't loose a lot of muscle. I lost a lot of muscle last time and I really regret that. I am 32%BF right now which is pretty bad. I want to get to 24% in March and I think that is doable. I think all of us have to find our own balance. I jsut hope I don't hit a really long and bad plateau. I heard that zig-zagging your calorie intake when you hit a plateau is good. That or increase cardio, so I will have to see how it goes. Thanks for the reply ![]() G |

Hi there,
This is actually my first post here so bare with me. I have been doing atkins since nov so I'm a relative newbie to that too. It has been really slow going which I expected as not i don't have much weight to lose. I have to do my cardio and keep a mind on calories, though I don't count them as such. Not exercising for a few days or having a day when I know I have eaten a little too well slows me even more. It keeps coming off slowly and I have lost inches more quickly than pounds. Just stick at it ![]() |

If you have 10lbs to lose and lose 1lb during induction you've lost at the same rate as someone who had 100lbs to lose and lost 10lbs in the same period of time. You don't lose slower - the percentages remain the same....it's the perspective that changes. Those big numbers sound really attractive - but you have to compare the whole picture, not just the parts of it that jump off the page at ya
![]() As we get smaller, we really do have to keep our calorie total and portion sizes much more in check. That said, it only took me from August to November to knock off the 20lbs I regained after hitting goal and maintaining it for a year and a half. If you exercise more, you can eat more. If you don't, ya gotta trade it off with eating less. Keep at it!! ~Brook
