Does this happen to you all? (women)

Well, I started Adkins 3 weeks ago and have lost 14 lbs. I am in deep ketosis and have been since the 2nd day. The problem is that in the last 3-4 days I haven't lost anything and infact have gained 1-2 lbs.

After thinking about this, I am wondering if this could have something to do with the time of the month? I expect that I am a week away from that time.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I can't imagine being in the state of ketosis that I am in and not losing. Isn't that what ketosis shows, buring ones fat? I am eating 15-20 carbs a day. Please help.

Yes. On another board I look at, that is an often discussed topic. For some people, it can cause weightloss to slow or stop during that time. Others don't have that propblem. That may very well be what has happened to you.

Also, keep in mind that there is sometimes a period of time when your weightloss will slow. This does not happen to everyone, but I have seen it happen to alot of people. If it does happen, it typically happens after the initial induction phase. That is what happened for me the firxt time I did Atkins. Right after 3-4 weeks, my weightloss slowed to a grinding halt. It did pick back up again.

Just stick to it and it will pick back up.

Another thing to consider is how much dietary fat you're getting. Sometime ago a very successful poster pointed out that keto sticks can be very dark, not because we're burning fat but because we're excreting dietary fat.

I am getting about 60g of fat/day. How do I know if that is too much?

Do you have a fitday account? www.fitday.com. It is free. You can input your foods from their pre-selected nutritional info or add the nutritional info yourself. After you do that, at the top of your food chart, it will give a breakdown of fat, carbs, protein for the day. The percentages (not the grams) should be about 70% fat, 20-30% protein and 5% carbs.

I was up to 83 grams of fat today which is only 70% according to my chart. It will depend on how your other categories of carbs and protein breaks down for the day.

If you are strictly following the rules of induction, you should be within that range automatically.

Post induction stall. Your body can only lose so much weight so fast, even in deep ketosis. It's common for people to lose a lot of weight quickly on induction and then slow down or even stall for a bit while their body adjusts. The key is to stay the path and give it a bit of time before freaking out. If after a few weeks (Atkins suggests 6 weeks without weight or inches loss is a true stall) then start tweaking. Congrats on the weight loss!
