Confused and a little scared.

I've decided to come back to low carb, but I'm kind of nervous. I recently made myself REALLY sick following a meat and egg fast I saw in this forum.

I want to do it right, but I need help.

OK,
Youv'e learned your body doesn't do so well at too low carb. Do a clean induction after you read the book and you will succeed.
Best Wishes,

Same thing happened here

I got so sick, never want to feel like that again. Since that I fell off the wagon, actually I crashed the wagon. But I like you have figured out that a way of life is just that, a way of life. I had a hard time realizing that Dr Atkins had so much research and time in this way of eating and I need to listen to what he said and NOT try some crazy things to get my weight to drop faster. So I am doing clean induction and will add back my carbs by the carb ladder.

Good luck!!!

What do you mean by really sick? Did you do it for a very long time? I don't think I could stick to it for even one day, but that's just me. I love my veggies and fruit and now I even have some grains sometimes and the odd potato, here and there.

Follow the book, do induction as long as you'd like then work up the ladder

I had some success with Atkins a long time ago, but it just wasn't working as it had. I happened on this site, and saw some threads about accelerating your loss by just eating meat and eggs, keeping your carbs REALLY low.

It was one of those "sounded like a good idea at the time" things.

I knew it sounded too much like a crash diet, but I felt desperate, and I thought for SURE the site wouldn't sanction something if it wasn't safe. I should have known better. I was only on it a few days, and although I had been assured by others that my crappy feeling would pass, and that it was safe to stay on long-term (one lady was planning to do it for months) I blacked out one day.

NEVER AGAIN.

I'm back at it by the BOOK this time.

There isn't anyone here that reviews posts to make sure that crazy and unhealthy advice isn't given. As far as I know, the moderators will remove posts that are offensive or if they contain links to other sites or something, but you are free to give any type of advice you want, regardless of how insane it is. And there's plenty of that going around

As the others mentioned, try induction as it is written in any one of the many LC books (choose one, follow it). If you find that very low carbs (20 on Atkins, 30 or so on Protein Power, I think), then up them slowly according to the guidelines in the book. There are many people who cannot tolerate very, very low carbs (e.g. less than 20 carbs) and there is no reason to subject your body to that.

One thing we can all do is remember to use our heads when asking or getting advice from others. I failed to do this and got myself quite sick, too. Had I used my brains, I would have known that eating only meat and eggs and skipping all green veggies or going lower and lower calorie wasn't smart, but when we get desperate.....

Good luck to you

When I tried the meat and egg

crazy idea I got...
sick as a dog. I couldn't go more than 3 hours without eating. I got shakey, dripping wet, dizzy, nearly passing out. I think the worse symptom though was the moodiness. I got really nastey if I didn't have food right a way. I mean like a personality change. I would eat and then feel ok for a couple hours. Then the process would start all over again. It continued to get worse. Finally I gave in and ate off plan. I felt better right away. I tried several times since then to get back to 20 carbs and would get sick all over again. I think I did something terrible to my body. I was on Atkins for 3 years and lost slow but steady. I wish I never would have tried the M&E fast (if I can call it that). For now on I will follow only what Dr Atkins said would work. No more trying to drop faster than I should. I can't even do induction levels yet, but I am close to there. I really went off and ate and overindulged everything, but I am determind to get my body to respond to low carb once again.

I'm sorry you guys got ill

Sorry that the M & E fast didn't work for you. Not every method works for everyone, nor is it safe for everyone. Personally, I've had great results with the M & E diet and so have others.

Atkins also writes about the Fat Fast, which is just as extreme, if not more so. He does write that it's not for everyone and it can even be unsafe. I've done that also with great results. But that's just me.

Listen to your body and no one else's. If any diet plan, or exercise program or ANYTHING at all makes you feel ill....STOP!!!!

Some people have to tweak the plan for best results. Some don't. Each person is different. Do what's right for you. Please don't be discouraged. You can do this. Just do it your way!

I agree.... again you have to find what works for you and what YOU can live with. If anything makes you sick, feel funny or whatever... PLEASE STOP. I do M/E and Atkins induction 72 alternating, and it works for ME, I have no symptoms many of you have, but YOU found something that works for you. I do think anyone new to anything especially the LC way of life should read the respective book be it Atkins, Sommersize, BFL, SB and all the others, and not to combine any of them (well that was just my opinion.... many have combined them and it worked for them) It is best to do it right according the the diet..... unfortunately I have been off and on Atkins and right now considering I get bloated with just about everything, in order to lose weight and stay on plan, my combo works for me. I would never advise someone new to Atkins and really given Atkins a try to "experiment" with M/E or anyother version of it.

Just my two cents...... I try not to "badmouth" anyones choice to reach their goals... we are all different therefor we all have different things that get us to our goals......

Carby~ I would advise you just from MY experience to read the book all the way through, it is important to understand it inside and out. When I first started it (years ago) I kept it like a bible, it had highlights and sticky notes all through it, I am sorry you had a bad experience with M/E fast, it is not for everyone. Good luck with your goals... read that book you will be losing in not time

Hey Carby

I remember you from the ME thread....
Sorry that it did not work for you. For me it has been great, and another option.

I stalled after induction and if it wasnt for the ME fast I would of gave up on low carbing.

I dont follow it to the tee, but when I know ive went overboard on carbs it helps me get back into the groove. I get the sick feeling, headaches etc regardless if I do the ME or induction for the first couple days that I really stick to less than 20 carbs.

Again, The ME is a challenge not away of life... also alot of women just enjoy the company of the other women on the site. many add other things to their diet. What works for one doesnt always work for others... all of us should know that or we wouldnt be in the situation of being overweight.

You have to get to know your body, your lifestyle, none of us were eating healthy before we decided to lose our weight. Many people disagree with low carbing all together. Find what works for you... and what your body can handle.

I hope you still stop by the ME thread and say hello, let us know how you are doing... your experience good or bad may help someone else.

Blessings, Vicki

I"m so sorry the ME didn't work for you.

I've lost over 50lbs on it (not continuously either) in the last three months. I'm glad I found it.

Hope you find something that works for YOU and makes YOU feel better. Feeling crappy isn't fun at all.

I've tried ME and felt the same way. I am currently doing a clean induction and I feel great. I never could do the ME right, so I never really tried again. I get sick on induction too; but it only last a few day and then I'm back to normal. Before finding out about ME, I tried Fat Fast for a week and lost 7 pounds. Atkins states in his book that FF is only for people that can not experience weight loss on 20 grams of carbs. He only advise us to try it for a week or so and THAT IS IT !! Then you should switch back to induction immediately.

Personally, I post on ME because I have met some awesome people over there. I never judge them. Most folks are doing GREAT on the fast and I don't knock them at all. I'm doing what works for Tomeikah! But in the process, if one of my friends from the board is losing and they are happy, I support them.

You have to do what is best for you and your body. What might work for one person, may not work for me and you. You be the judge of yourself and what your body can handle. Frankly, I can't handle ME. I tried it, my results weren't like other; and I went back to what works for ME and I'm happy on inductions and haven't cheated since I've been back on to eating clean.

Good luck to you all and remember, stick with works for you !!

Be Blessed

When you LC eat (not when you tried Meat and eggs) what do you normally eat? What does your menu look like?

My menu on induction is basically average servings of meat, very little, if any, cheese, a little cream in my coffee, and induction-list vegetables. I do go over the three cup total, but not by a lot. Could that extra cup or two of salad REALLY make me stall?

if you are feeling badly add in more veggies. The books says there is no reason to feel terrible from lowering your carbs suddenly....just add in some more veggies.
