Tips for Breaking Stalls!

I just thought I would share some info I found!

It is not uncommon for any dieter to face a stall. Of course, we low carb dieters have an advantage... we stall less and maximize our metabolisms-- not freeze them. But, nevertheless, even the carb-aware fall prey to a plateau. But don't fret, there are ways to beat the stall:

-Give up carb convience foods and limit your self to one (or none) "fake" food a day... this would include your morning tea or coffee with sweetner or your soy and flax products... see how that goes after a week

-Ditch dairy other than one serving of cream perhaps or at least limit it's consumption to 3-4 servings per day. Too often we see cheese as "free" but it can really be a diet-buster

-Check for too many chemicals. Try to go for natural foods and watch for processing like bacon and lunch meats, this includes perhaps giving up commercial dressing for oil and vinegar, until the stall moves

-Track your calories for a day. If you are stalling, you want your calories to surely stay in the range of about 10-12 x your current weight, but don't dip below 10!

-Who can believe it, but check your veggies. When you are stalling up and you're just eating meat and veggies, try to only have dark green plant-based food (maybe some wild mushrooms for variety)

-Cut caffiene! Keep it to one (or none!) cup a day! Caffiene not only spikes blood sugar, but it makes you crave food when you are already full-- especially carbs!

- Most importantly, don't give up! Your stall will turn around, your body just needs to realize that, no, you are not in a famine, you have just decided to eat healthfully!

Hope that helps anybody in a stall!

Such a fantastic thread!!! I will need to read this from time to time. It seems I stall quite frequently. I'm re-reading Atkins New Diet Revolution though...<sigh>. I hate stalls but this is great advice to keep in mind. Thank you for sharing.

Great ideas on stalls. Will try them starting tonights dinner. I have already lost alot of my weight but still have 60 more to go and am trying desperately to lose it. Right now we are in the process of moving to Mobile, Ala. because of my hubbys work transfer and I have been under alot of stress and so tired from packing and have not been sleeping well either lately so I am hoping trying some of these ideas will help me. I have already given up the coffee and only drink diet rites with no caffine.

I have a question for you all here if you don't mind. Ok here it is..............
For some reason I seem to stay so puffy in the face and neck areas of my body and my pictures make me looks so fat when my legs and hips are so much smaller. I seem to lose my weight in my lower areas faster than the top of me and when-ever I get a picture made of me I just hate how it makes me still look so big. Could it be from not eating right or maybe just in my family genes... Why wouldn't I lose the same all over?
Are any of you having this same problem?

Sorry I got off subject of stalls but I just had this on my mind....

I finally figured why my pounds stopped coming off. It's all the coffee I've been drinking the last week or so. I was wondering why I was even gaining a little bit back until I saw the 8 empta splenda packets by the coffee pot and it hit me. THe stupid thing too is that I know coffee stalls me and I had a ton of it anyways. Stupid me.

A number of articles have been written with regard to avoiding the dreaded "stall". Many of them note that the presence of exercise makes all the difference inthe world.

We all would like to think we're exercising enough already, but if we looked at our routine objectively, most of us aren't doing enough to even show up on the radar.

All too often, we put ALL of our focus on what, when, and how often we eat and spend absolutely NO time focusing on exercise. While this WOE is a great thing, don't get me wrong, it can't do it alone over the long haul. If you want long-term success you need to add exercise into your daily routine.

I'm returning to low-carbing after losing 60lbs about three years ago. My downfall was that I wasn't coupling this WOE with an aggressive approach to exercise. When I fell off the wagon, my weight shot right back up because I hadn't done anything to build muscle and boost my metabolism.

So, if you want to avoid the constant stress of confronting stalls, I would suggest adding an aggressive exercise program to your daily routine.

Just some thoughts ... Good Luck.

Erica...thanks for the tips to break stalls. I saved the thread for when I need reminders.

Shavey...you are so right about excersising. I am no where near being agressive about it but I am actually doing it and I am finding it's making a difference, even after a short time.
