I saw a thread recently on yogurt

Hi-
Can someone tell me what is so bad about yogurt? I looked at a friend of mines tonight and it said 18 carbs.Ya- that seems like a lot to me, but you can start adding dairy in Pre-maintenance and maintenance, can't you?
Is that why or is it because its a dairy.
Does that make sense?

You have to be careful what kind of yogurt you eat because a lot of brands are high in sugar. Some add starches and even high fructose corn syrup, which is very bad for you. There is nothing wrong with dairy. I eat Carb Freedom yogurt, which is sweetened with splenda and has not added sugar or starch.

I like to take full fat plain yogurt and strain it to make "yocheese" and then add my own sugar free flavors like davincis. It is thicker and creamier than regular yougurt. Very yummy. There is a whole challenge on this board that has lots of great info. I think it is called Yogurt the Whey to Go. You should check it out...

I started eating Carb Freedom also in pre maintenance (Blue Bunny). I love the Vanilla - but they are all good! Blue Bunny now also makes a yogurt drinkable smoothie. Found this at Wal Mart for $1 - something like 4 net grams each......

the Blue Bunny is good, and only 5 carbs per serving. I just tried the strawberry/bananna which was a new flavor at my Wal Mart. It is really good, but I like them all. I'm not too wild about the vanilla, but it is okay. The fruit flavors are all really good.

Dannon has a Carb Control yogurt. It only has 3g carbs in it.

Also, I found Mediteranian (SP?) cheese style yogurt at Trader Joe's yesterday. One serving has only one gram of carb in it. Its plain but you can add your own flavors to it. Its kinda like a cross between yogurt, cream cheese, and sour cream. I like it sprinkled with nuts, a little sweetener, and maybe some fruit.

Nothing, if it doesn't stall you. I'm a yogurt freak, and ate it starting 4 months into my journey up to now, and will do so every day. I use Dannon Plain Natural in the 32oz tub, full fat. I add Stevia / sf syrup to it, plus flaxmeal and nuts (pecans/walnuts).

See this:

The Yogurt Exception

I have had tremendous losses by incorporating at least 2 cups of yogurt into my daily eating plan. Not everyone reacts the same way. I think it's GREAT for your body.

Dr. Atkins also mentions it in his Carb Counter booklet, page 49.

I recently found ***e Greek Yogurt. Trader Joe's carries it, and several health food stores. OMG is it fantastic! It's thicker than regular yogurt--the texture is a cross between whipped cream and pudding. It is unflavored and unsweetened, so I add a packet of sweetener, a touch of lemon extract, and top with blueberries and pecans. This is like dessert for me!

Yo Alliecat! Thanks for the tip. May I add that Alliecat is my nickname as well. Since I was about 5 or 6 I've been called that...among other things....Kaptain Klutz being prominent. My Daughter prefers to be called catgirl.

Anyway, your article on yogurt was very informative. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks- I used to drain my yogurt and I LOVE the result. But I can't pay 2.69 for 32oz of yogurt only to be left with 16oz... costs too much and I eat too much of it to be throwin away half.

So I quit draining.

Anyone use an EasiYo yoghurt maker? It's so quick and easy to make and the carb counts aren't that different from shopbought ones.

I hadn't heard of EasiYo but now I'm wanting to buy one. Especially if it's gonna be cheaper.

OK after reading info on their website I probably won't get it. Looks like you have to use their 'yogurt sachet' thing, instead of using whole regular milk.

That's right, you just mix the sachet with water in a container and stand it in another insulated container with hot water and leave overnight. The yogurt is pretty tasty and about the same carbs per 100g as shopbought. Has plenty of bugs in it too. I wouldn't touch the custardy mixtures, they are loaded with flavourings and sugars, but the greek yogurt and the biolife yogs are really nice and drain well to make yo cheese.
