Advice needed

Hello, all. I'm new here and seriously need some advice. From all the threads I have read, you guys are professionals!
I started Atkins Feb. 2003 at 228 pounds. I'm female, 5'5" in my mid 30's. I did not excercise the first time that first year. Bad, I know, but to tell the truth, I'm pretty lazy about that. Anyway, I lost 2-3 pounds a week. Got down to 165 and thought I was a LC expert. Did everything by the book except the excercise. I've stayed at 165 for at least a year, knowing I would need to excercise to get to losing again, or so I thought. I joined a gym in Jan. this year and started excercising 3-4 sometimes 5 times a week and have not lost a pound yet! I know I'm probably gaining some muscle but still, not one freaking pound?? I'd like to lose 20 more pounds, but I just don't know if I can. I thought about rereading the book and getting more on track. I really don't "cheat" but I've done it so long, I just keep eating the old standbys I lost on. But, I've started drinking Caff. free Diet coke in the last 4-5 months and slacking on the water, but other than that not much is different. You guys have any ideas? Thanks

I've read around the boards that diet cola drinks cause stalls in weight loss so that may be it. To be honest, I've been drinking a lot of caffeine free diet pepsi this week and I noticed that I wasn't losing as fast as the first two weeks. Stay away from the diet cola for awhile and monitor your weight to see if anything changes. Hope this helps

have you been climbing the ladder? Whats your menu look like? Carb count? Calories? I would cut out the pepsi- maybe change to diet rite, or Pepsi One. Something with no Apartame in it

Hi there,
Have you lost inches at least? Are your clothes fitting better? I agree with the others about diet sodas. Cut them out for a while and see how you do. I'm pretty darned lazy when it comes to exercising too, even if you get to the gym 3x's a week or even some brisk walking, it's better than nothing.

to the boards!

Thanks for the ideas. I just tried a Pepsi One today and liked it. I know I need to stop all together and just stick to water. I do think maybe it's time I started watching calories. I never have, but I weighed alot more then. Maybe I have started climbing the ladder more than I realize. I mean, I don't actually cheat on a doughnut, but I'm probably eating more strawberrys than I should. Things like that. Thanks guys!

Try using fitday to see what you are really eating in numbers. It's an invaluable tool in my opinion.

Does Atkins work if you have had a hysterectomy?

Just4peas--I just signed up for fitday. It took me a while, being my first time, but I put in today's totals. GOOD LORD!!! I'm really surprised. It says I had 2481 cals w/ 29 grams of carbs.(net) Seems like a huge amount of calories to me. Had a lot of fat, if I'm doing this right. 187 grams of fat. Can that be right???? That just doesn't seem possible.

Well you will get a variety of answers when it comes to your numbers. Everyone is different and there are many philosophies here. So keep that in mind.

I personally keep my calories between 1200-1500 per day. I keep my fat grams between 75-100 grams and my protein between 65-100 grams. My carbs any where from 20-60 grams gross depending on the day. I am in maintenance though. Every now and then I have an off day, but this is fairly representative of the way I have eaten since September of last year.

There are those that will tell you that they don't count anything but carbs. Some will say they have to monitor everything. Some fall in the middle. I need to watch everything as far as my numbers go. I fitday everything, everyday no matter what. This works for me, and I don't find it time consuming or cumbersome. This is the tool I use to help me learn how to eat properly, control my portions and make better choices. You can see my fitday here:

Do you have to put in alot of "custom" foods to begin with ? I'm not sure how to do like my cheesecake recipe into fitday.

I did yes. I eat a lot of whole foods as opposed to recipes, but I have a huge custom list. I add as go.

Gina - I hope so, my hysterectomy was two years ago (cancer-free)!!! My fear is that the bulge sitting in my abdominal area is from the surgery and will never go away, not from being fat and that I can lose all the weight I want and the bulge will still be there. I'm built like an "S" anyway...bulging tummy and a bubble butt. One of them has to go away...I'm hoping for the tummy.
