Trouble staying on it.

This is my first post.

Around this time last year (right after the Arnold Fitness Expo here in Columbus) I went on Atkins to help me join the US Navy. And within one month I dropped around 30 lbs. (At the time I was right around 280) and then I made it to around 216 right around August. But an offset of events that caused me to break my diet and I gained 40 pounds. I've decided to go back on it, but I have found its harder for me to stay on it. Last time it was easy. Any tips from you guys (and gals) to help a person stay on it.

My frame of mind has to be right to begin this way of eating. After 6 mos of out of contol eating and gaining back 20 lbs, I sort of hit rock bottom and my mind set was right. Just gonna do it this time!
Good Luck,
BJW

Well, I would have made it. MEPs DQ me for 3 months because the recruiters wrote down my height wrong and when they went to weight me, I was about 5 pounds over. So, I droped it to about 10 pounds less. But, turns out Acne was an issue. Tried to get a waiver and I was denied. So, they just kept saying wait a few months, so I decided I have to get to college and moved on from there.

I'm struggling, too. I lost about 50 pounds with about 25 to go. I never actually "quit" Atkins and still don't eat rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes. However, I started eating sweet stuff again. Just a little at first but then more and more. Now I've gained 10 pounds instead of the same 5 that I would gain/lose every few weeks. Some of my new cute clothes are too little and forget about the size smaller ones I bought in Febuary on clearance. I'm having a belated birthday celebration (mine) tonight so I guess I'll go ahead and eat sensibly. But tomorrow--I swear it I get back on track, on strict induction, forget about the crap. My problem is that I love the taste of food! And I love to eat. I have to break the sugar cravings again. OK I'm rambling. Maybe if I actually write it down for others to see I can do better. Thanks for listening. Good luck to all you that are also struggling.

I know what you mean! It was terribly difficult for me to get back on plan after this last binge. It's hard but that don't mean you can't do it!!! Cause u most certainly can. Take it one day at a time and post here often for support!

Just curious... why would Acne be an issue in the military?

I love food too and use foods for the wrong reason as well. Like everyone says here YOU have to really want to do it for You to suceed. My husbend isn't overweight by any means but the military said he had to lose some body fat and put him on required exercise for six monthes. He told me to start cooking lowcarb for him but couldn't do the introduction so i put him on maintanice levels with sandwiches of wholemeal bread once or twice a week and he lost what he needed. Maybe you should try the pre maintence levels and see if you do better. Just a thought. good luck.

I do better when I preplan my meals...it doesn't usually give me a chance to seek out something I know I shouldn't be eating. Try to keep some LC snacks around...cheese, deviled or hard boiled eggs, some deli meats, tuna or chicken salad, etc. this way you have something ready to eat if you get hungry & need a snack.

Good luck!!
