after induction stall me too!
I have experienced the same thing i was losing during induction now my body seems to be at a stall. But i guess it could be a few different issues for myself. my weight goal is to lose about 15 more pounds. i am guessing this is why i am losing so slow. also i am using atkins products daily 2-3 times so i guess this could be the issue too. I am not really considered being in the overweight catagory but i just found out recently that i have a high trigyliceride level so i am having to adjust my diet. I am considered the "apple body shape" so i am figuring this too is against me. all the weight is in my middle from which i understand is the most dangerous and the hardest to lose.
I know, i know.. exercise.. i just got out of the army this past sept. so i should know better when it comes to exercise. when i got out i was happy i didnt have to meet for those early mornings of PT anymore. Also i was healing from injuries so i had to take it easy a while to heal. but still i have a hard time being motivated to exercise. my husband and i got bikes for our anniversary and i thought i would really enjoy it, but i live in california and there are so many hills here it is like a major work out just taking the bike for a leisure stroll! because i have little weight to lose what do i do? do i keep adding 5 grams of carbs each week even though i am not losing? or do i skip over to the lifestyle phase or what? anyone have any good suggestions? jservant2 |

Well..you sound like you already knopw what to do
![]() First thing I tell people that are losing slow or stalled is ditch all products!! Many people, especially those close to goal don't lose when having them..especially 2-3 a day! With just 15 to go..I wouldn't expect a huge weekly loss. When I got that close..I went to the maintane lane and asked them what their weekly loss was for the last 10 or so. Average seemed to be 1/2-1 lbs a week. Your body fights the lsat few lbs..so eating clean..EXERCISE and patience is the KEY (IMHO) Just want to add..when I hit goal..I figured I could star indulging a bit on some low-carb products ( I had done none my last year of loss) I only added back in 2-3 products per week ( so not even one a day mind you) and gained 5 lbs in 3 weeks. Reality is..the more real food you et..the better most do. If you really want that 15 gone..you might have do ditch the products..at least for now..and get your body moving! As far as adding in more carbs..I'd first ditch the products and sub those carbs in with more veggies..maybe some low-carb fruit and see how your body responds ![]()

atkins products
Thank you for your suggestions. I do need to slack off of the atkins products. So when you say atkins products does that also mean stay away from low carb breads too? or just the bars and shakes? I find that i have gotten bored with eating the same things over and over. The atkins products were like a treat to break the boredom. But i did see a difference when recently i went on a trip and barely ate any atkins products while i was gone. instead i ate more of the foods i was suppose to eat. when i got home i had been at the lowest weight ever just over the weekend! but just after a few days i gained the weight back. so i kinda figured it was the atkins products. So should i say good bye to the breads too? or just the snacks & shakes?

Well..If you asking my opinion..I say eat nothing that isn't natural..so no bread, tortillas..bars sahkes..or s/f candy! In doing that..your going to help lower cravings..and clean out your system. Once your back to loseing and your body is clean..you can then experiment to see what "products" your body can handle. To do this..simply add back in just one products (say bread) for a week..and then see if you continue to lose. Only way to know what is slowing loss is to startfresh

i'd keep those low carb products as a last resort

I new to akins I know that i lost a few pounds but I've been keeping my carb at 20 grams but it seem there's no weight lost. I remove everything not the claims low carb reduce equal or sucalose. Nothing process and drink so much water but when I use my ketosis stix especially in the morning it doesn't seem like I'm burning any fat. Please help I've been at it faithfully for about two weeks.

Kar..best beet is to post a 2 day menu of everything you eat and drink (include portion sizes like " 6 oz steak" and let's see if we can help. Many times people think their doing induction..but are off a bit. Also..a few more questions that may help are:
how much did you need to lose when you started? how much did you lose the first 2 weeks? are you taking meds? did you recently add in exercise? and how long at 20 carbs ![]() You can also pm me if you want some one on one help..anytime! I don't think the Atkns Nutritionalists are here much..and I hate to see people struggling..so I'd be glad to help if I can ![]() |

Kar,
Ok..still need the rest of the info questions I listed above. Some itmes are ok if on owl...but not if on induction. Few things I notived is high sodium foods! things like pork rinds, bacon and sausage tend to be very high in sodium..which may slow loss. Also..the bacon should be limited to 3 times a week at most. Sausage..depending on where you get it may contain sugar or fillers..so you have to look at ingrediants..not just carb count. If you have alredy found your ccl by the book..first thng you should have added was more veggies.insted of any fruit. You look to be getting about induction levels at best of veggies (depending on what is in your salad) and so fruit is not the first thing to then add. Same is true for low-carb bread. It's way down the list of foods to add. So..if you could answer the following..it would also help to know what's going on. How long low-carbing? how much did you need to lose total when you started? how many week on Atkins are you (if your on Atkins) Did you recently add in new exercise? and also..any meds other then the vitamins? |

Ok..almost there with my interigation (LOL)
I'm a little confussed by your stats. You've ben low-carbing one month..and want to lose a total of 60 lbs? Did you lose anything on induction (or the first 2 weeks)? You might be having a normal post induction stall. There is no mention of this in Dr. A's book..but after being on here and an admin in chat for 4+ years..I can tell you that it's not at all uncommon. Average loss for the full first 2 weeks is 10% of the total number of lbs you have to lose. So if you had 60 lbs to lose when you started..an average loss (if cheat free) is 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks. Did you have any loss? After the initial 2 week loss...many people have what is now coined as the "post induction stall" this is a 1-3 week period of no loss. My take on it is..if you we're close to the average loss the first 2 weeks..your body will stop losing for a bit to recover. Once it realizes your sticking this out..you then begin to lose again. Also..are you losing inches? some will only lose inches for a period of time..then have the lbs begin to go again. |

Yes, I've already have had some weight loss. My clothes are fitting better I can tell in the stomach more that anything it has gone down some. I feel light. My appetite has gone way down. I know that I'm losing but couple days ago I used my ketosis stix and there was no color change and I panic. I thought I was doing something wrong. But I have continue to test as I did this morning and the was a ketosis response it was pink. Now I'm being to order low carb stuff off the internet because I want to continue with it. The only thing I really thing I'm struggling with it the sugar. There are so many things that have sugar and I'm trying to figure out whether I should use equal or splenda and at what levels. I also was concern with what to snack on that's low carb. I still trying to stay as close to 20gm a day of carb or less.
But it's good to have someone like you to bounce things off who is very familiar with this weight loss process. Thanks for being there. |

Glad whenever I can help
![]() And Kar is right!! Fitday is an amazing tool to use..just go to fitday.com and set=up an account. It's free..and if you take the time to learn your way through it..you can input your daily foods and it will give you a TRUE carb count.plus fat and protein % and a ton more iinfo to help when stuck. As far as the sticks..really..don't panic! I never showed any color on them untill evening..and only a tace. This was true though all my loss. As for cravings..we each have our own way of dealing with them. My insite however is this (and this is comming from an old-die hard mind you! LOL) the more you fed sugar cravings, even with legal treats, the more they tend to grow. Only way I have found to get rifd of them..is to starve the suckers! I also find when really going insane..if I up my fat intake a bit..it makes a huge diffrence. P.S. Snack ideas: hard boiled or deviled eggs, string cheese or piece of cheese, cucumbers with ranch dressing or cream cheese, few oz. of steak, chicken leg or a few wings, pork rinds (just watch the amount..they are high in sodium) fresh veggies with dresing to "dip" Hope these help! I tend to not eat real meals..but more like 4-6 smaller snack size meals a day. |

Thanks for talking to me Lisa....
I had no results again this morning, the reading vary. But I'm wondering should I stop using equal and/or splenda. Could that be effecting my ketosis. I had this awful taste in my mouth yesterday. However, my appetite is so low right now. Are these also indications that its working. I don't know whether I'm doing things correctly. I just don't want to fail. I really want to lose the weight.

Kar..I usualy don't post in here. I realized due to another post that this board was started for the Atkins nutritionalists to respond. However, they seem to be overloaded..and so I try and help when asked
![]() Ok..let me tell ya this..the sticks are a tool, NEVER the rule. The sticks can turn color or not for a huge host of reasons. Some being meds, time of month, fat consumption, how many ketones your body is useing, time of testing..and on and on! Here are a few signs of ketosis you can "look" for: (some people have one of these..some have seveal) Dragon breath (some say it's like a metal taste) strong smelling urine or sweat (as ketones are released though both), lack of appitite, more energy, and last but never least..loss of inces and or lbs. Here's what I would tell ya. Do induction clean (no products, eat when hungry, stop when full and stick to limits where there are limits) for 2 full weeks and then see how much you've lost. Again..averagely, people lose about 10% of the total number of lbs they need to lose if doing it right. So if you have 100 lbs to lose..average would be around 10 lbs..40 to lose..we're talking 4 lbs. I understand no one wants to do it wrong and waste 2 weeks..but really..you have to give your body (and we each react diffrently) enough time to respond. 2 weeks seems to be a good amount of time. IF your way below average..(say the average for you is 9 lbs..and you lose 2) then you might be resistant..and there are things in the book that can help. Untill then..you have to try and have a little patience and stay off the scale. Fel free to e-mail me if you want. I'm going to keep checking in here..so you can also post questions here ![]() |

Wow - you've really put things in perspective for me. I started off at 185, hoping to lose 50 pounds to get down to 135. After 2 weeks of induction, I only lost 5 pounds, which got me discouraged. After reading about the 10% rule, I felt much better. Wednesday is my 3 weeks weigh-in, and I'm hoping to see a change in the scale. Thank you so much!!

I have never had a sweet tooth. I have a french fry tooth instead. However, during my second week of induction I smelled every single gram of sugar in the grocery store! I was dying for it! But let me ease your mind, it was only temporary. I only noticed it a couple of days. I ignored it and it went away. You can do it!
