Canned Chicken
This may seem like a silly question, but do you count the carbs in canned chicken. As chicken I would think it would count as "free food" but the can lists carbs. So far I've been adding them in. Just wanted to check with the "smarties". Thanks!

I eat the Hormel low sodium. What carbs??? If it's chicken, there are none. Nothing is a free food, everything has calories. If too many calories do not stall, or too many carbs, then there is too much fat, or too much protein.

i'm not sure what the ingredients are in canned chicken, but sometimes there are additives or preservatives that can add carbs. for example if you get the whole roasted chicken from the deli, sometimes they are brined (injected with a mixture of water/salt/sugar) so they don't dry our when roasting. This adds about 1 carb per serving. Depends on the grocery store...whole foods is still 0 carbs I think.
Whatever the label says, I'd count that. |

That's is why I stay away from the rotiseri chickens, they are injected with sugar marinades.
The Hormel Low Sodium is chicken, water and salt. Maybe its broth, but thats it. I wont buy the other kinds. |

I just got back from the grocery store. ALL of the Hormel brands of CANNED (not in a pouch) chicken contained modified food starch (which includes MSG and sometimes soy) which would add carbs/turn into sugar in the body. The chicken in the pouch, however, did NOT contain the starch (sugar). The reason I avoid anything with food starch is because all too often it IS soy and msg.
