Day 4 on Atkins

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am new to Atkin's. This is my first post. Can anyone thell me what to expect with LCing? I am reading posts about people feeling sick and until today I have never felt better. But today, I just don't feel right. I am really tired. I was 166 on Monday when I started and I am 164 today. Is that just water weight I lost.Oh, and I was doing WW up until a week ago when I quit to start Atkin's. What is the weight loss usually like. Is it significant, should I notice? I know everyone is different. I'm a real newbie to this. Don't have any idea how this will go. Oh, and how do I edit my profile, to enter weights, etc?

Today is my 4th day also, and I am very tired I actually took a nap today (for the first time in months) I also have a bad headache. This is my 2nd time doing induction. The first time I started I lost 6lbs the first week. Then I cheated. Just some advice, don't cheat if you can help it cause if you do you have to start all over again to get back into ketosis.

I read on another post before that you can expect to lose 5-10% of your weight during induction. I think at first it is water weight, but afterwards the weight starts to come off. Good luck in all your goals!

Hang in there! The first 3 or 4 days are crucial. Your body is getting rid of all that sugar "garbage" and you will possible get a headache. It will go away soon. Same with the tiredness, take your multivitamins and keep on keeping on! Have a good high protein meal, and DON'T CHEAT!!!

Honest, by about day 6 or 7 you will feel GREAT! I end up dropping about 10 lbs by the end of week 2.

You've read the book, right? Be sure to follow it as closely as possible. Check out the various "induction friendly" recipes on the other board. When you feel like cheating just post over on the main board and we'll stop ya!

Again - hang in there. In a few days you'll feel great and wonder why you ever did anything different!

The first time I started Atkin's, I followed it to a T... By the 2nd day I had a miagrain that lasted for 3-4 days only to find out later is was from caffine withdraw... This time around I'm drinking 1 cup of reg. coffee (only 1 carb) in the morning just to keep that horrible miagrain away... Caffine can cause you to crave sugar which is why they tell you not to consume it...

Keep in mind that just because you have started a new way of eating, you are still the same person in the same body. Think back to when you were eating high carb. Did you have days when you felt really great and days when you didn't feel so hot or were very tired? Sure, the way you are feeling may be diet related, but then again, it may not be. I think that a lot of people tend to blame all their ailments on their diet when it might just be a bug or something totally unrelated.

Have u read the Atkins book? there are alot of stages that you have to follow and it is impossible to follow correctly without the book. U can expect to lose weight and feel great while low carbing. You will have clearer skin and more energy. Just get past the next few days and u will be feeling better. What u have described is know as the "atkins flu"/ this lasts the first few days or so. around day 4-5 u will have increased energy and feel great. I started this WOE last year and from last april till last november i had lost 78 pounds. I am now getting back on the wagon and am also back on induction. make sure that you follow the book and keep your foods simple. By simple i mean no processed meats, eat real meats like steak, hamburger chicken etc, no skakes and no bars. the conveince foods have been known to stall and cause sugar cravings.

I wish u luck and am glad u found this website. It has been a life saver for me in the past and now. Dont get on the scale again till the end of induction... u will just drive urself nuts!!

just to validate...you are on the right track...feeling puny on day 3-4 is pretty normal. You are purging the carbs from your muscles and liver and once those are used as energy you will start to burn fat...the body is switching over to the fat burning metabolism and your body is saying "hey! where's the carbs?!" and giving you that low blood sugar crappy feeling until you get into full fat burning mode. Stick with it and you should be over it in a day or so.
