When do I start to lose?

I've been on induction for 4 days, I have been testing for ketones and from what the strips say i'm in ketosis. My question is when do you start to lose the weight?

That's a great question, lol. I was in ketosis (by the strips) for over two weeks with no loss (look at my stats, I was over 230 lbs.!). I think the strips were registering dietary fat, not 'burning fat'. I put my entire menu, every little morsel, weighed, measured into fitday dot com...and lo and behold...calories count TOO. I was intaking more calories than I needed. I was also eating products, instead of whole foods (yes, I know,,,,,they say it's 'only 2 net carbs' but in MY body, it registered EVERY carb, even sugar alcohols). It also contained soy (I can't have soy, I have hypothyroidism and soy slows the thyroid...just what I don't need...because the thyroid hormones determine our metabolic rate).

You might want to put everything into fitday dot com and see what's what...or you can certainly post a menu (please tell exact amounts of everything that went into your mouth)...are you getting in plenty of water? I had to up my water consumption to quite close to 80 ounces most days and diet soda stalled me really badly. Also, if you 'carbed up' before you began the Atkins WOE...well, it's going to take a few days for the body to rid itself of what you ate. (Don't be scared,,,,it WILL work).

Here's a menu I had in my journal (helps to keep a daily journal, if only to see progress on paper) for induction:

B: Two whole eggs, one egg white omelet, with three ounces of chopped ham, 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms, a little diced tomato (yeah, they are carby..just watch the amount), a tablespoon each diced: gr. pepper, onion, two tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese.

Snack: Three tablespoons homemade chicken salad (with mayo and a little diced celery and dill pickle) and some pork rinds to scoop it up with.

Lunch: Two cups salad 'mix' (I took romaine, iceberg lettuce with some chopped celery, gr. pepper and kept in large container in fridge), one chopped boiled egg, three ounces of chicken, or a can of tuna, one bacon strip, chopped, two tablespoons shredded cheese, two tablespoons (measure it) olive oil and vinegar dressing (sometimes ranch, sometimes blue cheese).

Snack: One large rib celery with one ounce cream cheese (with chopped gr. olives...if you like).

Dinner: four to six ounces of poultry, fish, beef, one cup hot lc veggie (gr. beans, spinach, etc.) with one pat butter, if I was still hungry, I would add in a one cup side salad of my 'mix' with one tablespoon dressing.

Sometimes (two, three times a week) I would have a 1/2 cup of SF gelatin with a dollop of whipped cream on it.

Many of us take one day a week, and make food ahead: boiled eggs, chicken strips grilled, chicken breasts to make salad out of, etc. It really helps to have some food you KNOW is legal to eat. After you have been losing weight a couple of weeks, into OWL, exercise will help, too. Good luck to you...I sure look forward to your "I'm at goal!!!" post. HTH

Pam

Please also remember..the less you have to lose..the less you tend to lose on induction. Many use the numbers of 10% of the total amount to lose is average for induction. So by your stats..you have 4o to lose..hence average is 4 lbs for the full first 2 weeks of induction. Try to not stress. make usre your clear about your menu..and hang -on! I also suggest you stay off the scale untill your full 2 weeks are over! Some people will have an immediate drop..others will have their loss show in the second week. If at the end of your 2 weeks you have no loss..then it might be time to have some help to look over your menu...untill then..just stick to the list and again..TRY and avoid the scale
